Sifu 2nd Anniversary

Sifu Design Studio, 6054 N. Broadway, celebrates its second anniversary with an open house tonight from 5pm to 11pm. Enjoy apps and a birthday cake, and get a chance to win door prizes. Free.

B-Fest 2013

B-Fest, the annual 24-hour B-movie film fest, happens this weekend at Northwestern University. The fest runs from 6pm tonight through 6pm tomorrow, and will feature loads of monster movies, blaxploitation, weird short films, and a regular appearance by Ed Wood's classic Plan 9 From Outer Space. 2nd Story @ 57th Street Books

The 2nd Story hosts a reading from their recent anthology, Briefly Knocked Unconscious By a Low-flying Duck, at 6pm tonight at 57th Street Books in their new location, 5751 S. Woodlawn Ave. Enjoy lively performances from 2nd Story's Literary Director Megan Stielstra, Chair of the Columbia College Chicago Fiction Writing program Randy Albers and Columbia College faculty member Lott Hill. Readers are all featured contributors in the anthology. Pick up a copy and hang around after to chat with the readers. Free.

William S. Burroughs, Movie Star!

Th Psychotronic Film Society presents William S. Burroughs, Movie Star!, an evening of films starring the Beat writer and poet tonight at the Mayne Stage, 1328 W. Morse Ave. On screen will be Towers Open Fire, the documentary Burroughs: the Movie and several shorts and experimental films. Special guest for the evening is Graham Rae, film writer and Burroughs expert. Two shows, at 7pm and 10pm; lobby doors open an hour before each show. Tickets are $10. 18+

Shit Show @ The Shambles

The Shit Show comedy open mic, hosted by Rasa Gierstikas and Ever Mainard, returns to The Shambles, 2050 W. Division St., tonight. This month's lineup features Monique Madrid, Marlena Rodriguez, Goodrich Gevaart, Candy Lawrence, HOT DOG MAN! (Keith Pasel) and Kenny DeForest. Open mic signup starts at 7:30pm, show starts at 8:30pm. 21+

Creative Control @ saki

The latest installment of comedy series Creative Control is tonight at 8pm at saki, 3716 W. Fullerton Ave., Joe McAdam hosts, with sets by Jeff Steinbrunner, Kenny DeForest, Katie McVay, Dan Friesen and Paul Thomas, plus musical guest the Sheep Numbers. Free.

Dan & Letha Rodman Melchior Benefit @ the Burlington

The Burlington, 3425 W. Fullerton Ave., hosts a benefit concert for Dan and Letha Rodman Melchior to help fund Letha's ongoing cancer treatment. Circuit des Yeux, Rabid Rabbit, These Wonderful Evils and Nad Navillus perform. Doors are at 9pm. 21+

James Murphy @ The Mid

Since James Murphy folded LCD Soundsystem in mid-2011, he's laid relatively low -- spending more time producing than songwriting. His side gig as a DJ seemed like the obvious choice considering the electronic dance influences that drove LCD Soundsystem. Read our preview in Transmission. Murphy performs a DJ set tonight at The Mid, 306 N. Halsted St. Redux DJs, Tim Zawada, and Mike Petrack and Aran Daniels also spin. The club opens at 10pm.
