Write Club @ Hideout
The Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., hosts the latest edition of Write Club, the literary equivalent of a boxing match. Two authors spar on opposing concepts, a winner is determined by the audience, and prize money is awarded to the winners' charities. Tonight's bouts:Carly Oishi (WATER) vs. Patrick Gill (WINE), Joe Janes (DRUNK) vs. Janna Sobel (SOBER), Ian Belknap (SHAKEN) vs. Jennifer Coffeen (STIRRED). Show starts at 7pm, and admission is $10. 21+
South Pacific @ Music Box
The Music Box Theatre presents a special free screening of the 1958 classic South Pacific as part of Turner Classic Movies' celebration of their Classic Film Festival. In attendance will be film critic and author Leonard Maltin and original star of the film Mitzi Gaynor. Hiatus Kaiyote @ Double Door
Chicago-based Foreign Exchange and cuerators.com presents Australia's , Hiatus Kaiyote for the first time in Chicago on their first trip to the US, tonight at the Double Door (1572 N Milwaukee Ave). The recent winner of Gilles Peterson's (BBC) 2013 Worldwide Awards for 'Best Breakthrough Act', Hiatus Kaiyote masterfully unites future-beats, neo-soul and R&B. Local performances include Sidewalk Chalk, DJs Newlife & Itzi Nallah and host MC Zulu. The show is 21+ and starts at 9:30 pm. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
