Story Week

Columbia College's Story Week runs March 17-22, with multiple events each day. Today's activities begin at 11am; see the full schedule and/or Facebook for details.

Soup and Bread @ Hideout

The Hideout (1354 West Wabansia) holds its Soup and Bread weekly fundraiser tonight from 5:30-8pm (or until the soup runs out). Local chefs and foodies prepare a selection of soups for your casual slurping from the bar's crock pots, with (encouraged) donations going to a local food-related charity. This year each week has a theme, and tonight's is "Paris vs. Tokyo." Event is age 21+, but children can be admitted if accompanied by an adult.

MeSoFar: Lady Luck

Lady Luck is Me So Far's first event exclusively for women seeking women dating event, tonight from 6:30 to 9pm in the private lounge at Sushi Taiyo, 58 E. Ontario St. Tickets are $30; get them and more information here.

Guts & Glory @ Powell's Bookstore

Samantha Irby of Bitches Gotta Eat and Keith Ecker, the producer of Essay Fiesta, have teamed up to create Guts & Glory: Live Lit for the Lionhearted. This month's lineup includes playwright Chris Bower, Essay Fiesta producer Willy Nast, writer Jill Summers, Stoop-Style Stories producer Lily Be and performer Amanda Glasbrenner. Starts at 7pm at Powell's Bookstore, 2850 N. Lincoln Ave. Show is free and BYOB, with donations collected and split evenly between One Tail at a Time and 826CHI. Future shows will take place on the third Wednesday of every month.

Story Lab @ Black Rock

Story Lab stands apart from other live lit series in the city in its accessibility and unmitigated audience support for the performers at the Black Rock Pub, 3614 N. Damen Ave. This month's readers include: Sean Cooley, Gregory Ledger, Bailey Pickens, Byron Roussin, Klaudia Siczek, and Tamale. Hosted by Scott Whitehair of the reading series This Much is True. Idiot Glee @ Empty Bottle

Idiot Glee is a one-man experimental pop music project from Lexington that has elements of Roxy Music's art-rock aesthetic, Grizzly Bear's ethereal harmonies and hints of soothing R&B. The new EP Life Without Jazz follows in the steps of the acclaimed debut album, Paddywhack. Idiot Glee plays second at the Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave.. Chris Cohen headlines. Chicago's Thin Hymns open at 9:30pm. The show's 21+, $7 in advance, $10 at the door.
