Rush Hour Concert Series

Tonight, Rush Hour Concerts opens its fourteenth season presenting free, weekly chamber music in the beautiful St. James Cathedral. Chicago Symphony Orchestra cellist Brant Taylor joins pianist Kuang-Hao Huang in Rachmaninoff's sensuous Sonata for Cello and Piano. (Other June highlights include a world premiere for organ and trumpet on June 11, lots of Bach on June 18, and the Brahms Piano Trio in B Major on June 25.) The best part: it's all free. The other best part: most concerts are only 30 minutes. Refreshments at 5:15pm, concert at 5:45pm. Tuesdays, June 4 - August 27. Admission is free. St. James Cathedral, 65 E. Huron.

Tuesday Funk @ Hopleaf

Tuesday Funk returns to the upstairs bar at Hopleaf, 5148 N. Clark St., tonight, with readings by Darwyn Jones, Heather Corallo, Lawrence Santoro, Mare Swallow, and G.P.A. (Greatest Poet Alive). Gapers Block's Andrew Huff hosts. Doors open at 7pm, show starts at 7:30pm. Free, 21+

Pechakucha @ Martyrs'

Pechakucha returns to Martyrs', 3855 N. Lincoln Ave., tonight at 8pm. Nick Adam, Michael Genge, Ryan McRae, Anna-Marie Penlilio, Joe Reinstein, Trevor Martin, Jeff Phillips, Eric Fleischauer and Ron Faiola each get 20 slides, 20 seconds apiece to make their case. Tess Landon and Peter Exley host. Tickets are $10. 21+

Subject to Change @ Township

Subject to Change, a monthly dance party that encourages all types of expression, is tonight at Township, 2200 N. California Ave., at 9pm. The dance party will feature regular DJs Josie Bush and Butch Sassidy the Come-Dance Kid as well as guest DJs Corrine Mina and Cojuelo Alelao, plus performances by H. Melt, Drow Flow and Nicole Garneau. $5 suggested donation will benefit 3rd Language, a Chicago-based collective of artists and thinkers exploring and embracing difference, otherness and transgression. 18+
