The Englewood Jazz Festival runs Sept. 19-21 at the Hamilton Park Cultural Center, 513 W. 72nd St. Tonight's programming runs from 4pm to 9pm, and features an open rehearsal with the Live the Spirit Big Band and a roundtable discussion on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., with composers Ernest Dawkins and Kelan Phil Cohran, historian Timuel Black and poet Khari B. Admission is free, but donations encouraged.
Community Media Workshop hosts a benefit party for the Studs Terkel Scholarship tonight at Ugly Step Sister Art Gallery, 1750 S Union Ave., from 6 to 10pm. $20 in advance or at the door gets you access to the open bar and appetizers from Yo Soy underground supper club. 21+

Oak Park's Buzz Café (905 S. Lombard) welcomes local author E.C. Diskin to chat about her Chicago-based legal thriller The Green Line with readers in the cafe's first-ever Community Book Club Night. As guests nibble on a spread of appetizers and desserts, they'll delve into a discussion of naive lawyer protagonist Abby's quest to unravel a mystery she stumbles into late one night when she accidentally gets off the train in the Austin neighborhood. $10 gets you admission and snacks.
