Notable chefs from all over the country (among them Next's Dave Beran) will meet at the Wyndham Grand (71 E. Upper Wacker) today to discuss the roots and future of American cuisine; the talk begins 10am, with a dinner at 6pm to enjoy an eight-course meal. The $250 ticket, if you can swing it, will be worth it.
Celebrate the beginning of Autumn and the end of street festival season, by viewing the work of 60 local artists on Granville at Broadway from 11am to 6pm today. In addition to paintings, photography, and mixed-media, there is also jewelry, printing, pottery, and fabric items. You can relax in the Pop-Up Beer Garden, listen to some music, and see art by local school students, as well. There is a Children's Music Talent Showcase at Noon and a Pet Parade and Costume Contest at 2:15 pm. There is a suggested donation of $5.
Celebrate all that is wonderful about good food and drink at the annual Chicago Gourmet event at a cordoned-off Millennium Park for a day of classy debauchery. Cooking demos, tastings, drinking, book signings and celebchef sightings are par for the course. Tickets begin at $159.
