Playdate at Old Town @ Old Town School of Folk Music

The Old Town School of Folk Music presents a tribute to their early days with Playdate at Old Town, a morning concert featuring instructors Mark Dvorak and Jason McInnes, and the Young Stracke All-Stars band. The Massacre @ Patio Theater

Terror in the Aisles brings its annual 24-hour horror movie marathon, The Massacre, to the Patio Theater, 6008 W. Irving Park Rd. More than a dozen horror films and an equal number of shorts will screen, from Thomas Edison's Frankenstein to Army of Darkness. Special guests include Mark Patton, star of Nightmare on Elm St. 2; director Fred Walton (April Fool's Day, When A Stranger Calls); and director Gary Sherman (Dead and Buried, Raw Meat, Vice Squad), plus vendor tables, prizes, a charity auction benefiting Vital Bridges and more. Doors open at 11am; the films start at noon today and run till noon Sunday, but you can come and go as you please. Tickets are $20 in advance, $28 at the door.

Andersonville Arts Weekend

The 11th annual Andersonville Arts Weekend runs Oct. 11-13 throughout the neighborhood, mostly on or near Clark Street from Winnemac to Hollywood. Events begin at 11am today; see the full schedule for details. Free.

Six Corners to Dedicate Portage Sculpture

A sculpture titled Portage, depicting a Native American preparing to portage a canoe to the next watershed, will be dedicated today at noon. The work by artist Ted Sitting Crow Garner is being installed on the Cicero Avenue side of the Six Corners Sears store at 4730 N. Irving Park Rd. 12 Weeks of Quimbas: A Christmas Story

Author Caseen Gaines discusses and signs his new book, A Christmas Story: Behind the Scenes of a Holiday Classic tonight at Quimby's, 1854 W. North Ave., at 7pm, with special guest Ian Petrella, who played Ralphie's little brother Randy in the film. Free.

Ben Vida @ Graham Foundation (Lampo event)

Electronic music composer (and former Chicagoan) Ben Vida will perform two compositions as part of Lampo's Fall 2013 season at the Graham Foundation's Madlener House, 4 W. Burton Pl. The event is free with RSVP. More information in Transmission.

Radiolab Live @ Chicago Theatre

Signs of Life @ Victory Gardens Theater

Signs of Life, a musical drama based on the true story of the Czech ghetto, Terezin, has come to Chicago for a limited run at Victory Gardens Theater (2433 N. Lincoln.) Universally acclaimed by the Sun-Times, Reader and the New York Times, Signs of Life runs through October 27 with performances on Wednesdays at 2pm and 7:30pm, Thursdays at 7:30pm, Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 5pm and 8:30pm, and Sundays at 3pm. Tim Hecker @ Co-Prosperity Sphere

Tim Hecker is an avant-garde electronic composer who transforms noise into something strangely beautiful. He was one of our top acts to see at Pitchfork when we previewed the festival in 2012. He is touring in support of his new album, Virgins which is being released next week. Check out a stream of the new album at NPR.
