The Culinary Historians of Chicago present "Before the Food Network," Recollections of Milwaukee's Chef Sanford D'Amato, today from 10am to noon at the Kendall College School of Culinary Arts, 900 N. North Branch St. A James Beard Award-winning chef, D'Amato's new memoir, Good Stock: Life on a Low Simmer, was just released by Agate Midway. He'll discuss the book and do a cooking demo. The Block Museum of Art, 40 Arts Circle Dr. in Evanston, screens the BBC documentary "Vivian Maier: Who Took the Nanny's Pictures?" today at 2pm. Pamela Bannos, distinguished senior lecturer at Northwestern and a Maier scholar, will introduce the film. Free. More details here.
Mom Baby God, a political theater piece about anti-choice politics, has two Chicago performances this week. Produced by Northampton, Massachusetts' Double LTR Productions, the story follows an ambitious teenaged anti-abortion activist as she meets the characters and explores the political terrain at a fictional Students for Life of America conference. Performances Thursday at 9pm and Saturday at 3pm at Gorilla Tango Bucktown, 1919 N. Milwaukee Ave. Tickets are $17-$25 and can be purchased online or by calling 773-598-4549. More info here.
Meals On Wheels Chicago hosts its 25th annual Nourish Celebrity Chef Ball fundraiser tonight at the Zhou B Art Center, 1029 W. 35th St. The VIP Chef's Table, which costs $350 per person, begins at 6:30pm and includes an "interactive dining experience" with celebrity chefs cooking live at the event, cocktails and wine pairings, as well as entry to the Chef's Tasting Party, which begins at 8:30pm and is $150 per person. The Chef's Tasting Party includes small bites from nearly 100 chefs, cocktails, wine and beer, plus a silent auction, photo booth and live music by Sugar High and DJ Lani Love. Tickets on sale here.
