National Sandwich Day @ Duran European Sandwiches

National Sandwich Day takes place on Nov. 3, but West Town's Duran European Sandwiches Cafe, 529 N. Milwaukee Ave., keeps the celebration going all weekend long as a charity fundraiser benefiting Chicago Artists Coalition. On both Saturday and Sunday, 50% of Duran's total profits will be donated to support the organization, which assists local artists and creative entrepreneurship. The Duran space will also transform into a gallery, hosting artwork from some of the city's most recognized geometric abstraction artists. Saturday from 8am to 5pm; Sunday from 9am to 3pm.

SOFA Chicago @ Navy Pier

The 20th annual SOFA Chicago, an art fair devoted to "Sculpture Objects Functional Art + Design," runs Friday through Sunday in Navy Pier's Festival Hall. Works from nearly 70 galleries from across the US and around the world will be on display. Hours are 11am to 7pm Friday and Saturday, and noon to 6pm today. General admission tickets are $15 per day or $25 for a three-day pass. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.

The Kindness of Strangers: A Festival of Storytelling @ Side Project Theatre

More than 30 storytellers have come together for this three-week Festival of Storytelling at the Side Project Theatre (1439 W. Jarvis Ave.) First-time and experienced tellers will weave together stories of connecting, or not, with strangers. This week's headlining teller is Kim Morris. The festival runs Sundays through Wednesdays through November 6. Show begins at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $15.

Here's the Story

Here's the Story returns to Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave., tonight with its unique mix of potluck dinner and storytelling show. Featured speakers this month include Father Michael Shanahan, Onion writer Jen Spyra, Puppet Bike puppeteer Michael King, Man, That's All She Wrote cohost Angela Benander, and sketch comedian Josh Berling -- plus a couple signups from the audience. Tickets are $8 or free if you bring a potluck dish to share. Potluck and storytelling sign-up begins at 7:30pm, show starts at 8pm.

My Bloody Valentine @ Aragon

My Bloody Valentine are back with a new album and a tour that takes them to the Aragon Ballroom, 1106 W. Lawrence Ave. tonight. Variety Lights open. Tickets are $43 including all the fees. Doors open at 7:30pm. All ages.

The CakeEasy @ Homegrown Cafe

Dust off your favorite Prohibition-era casual outfit for the inaugural Cake & Whiskey Club event tonight. The CakeEasy kicks off at 8 p.m. at Homegrown Cafe (4343 N. Lincoln Ave). Enjoy 2-3 cocktails per person, lots of cake, and music. Tickets are $28 and include tax and tip. No tickets will be sold at the door.
