Entrepreneur and investor Daymond John, one of the sharks on ABC's Shark Tank, will lead the judging panel at the Miller Lite Tap the Future business plan competition tonight at Park West, 322 W. Armitage. Hundreds of would-be entrepreneurs entered the competition and 25 semifinalists will pitch at five events nationwide for a chance to win cash prizes of $20,000. Five semifinalists, including two from the Chicago area, will pitch their businesses to the Daymond John panel. The event is free and open to the public; an RSVP is required. Doors open at 6:30pm. You must be 21 or older to attend and show a photo ID at the door.
Tuesday Funk, the monthly eclectic reading series, is back in the upstairs bar at Hopleaf, 5148 N. Clark St. Tonight's lineup features Paul McComas & Greg Starrett, Gapers Block alumna Rosamund Lannin, GB contributor J.H. Palmer, Vojislav Pejović and John Rich. William Shunn and GB editor Andrew Huff co-host. Doors open at 7pm, show starts at 7:30pm sharp. No cover. 21+
More than 30 storytellers have come together for this three-week Festival of Storytelling at the Side Project Theatre (1439 W. Jarvis Ave.) First-time and experienced tellers will weave together stories of connecting, or not, with strangers. This week's headlining teller is Kim Morris. The festival runs Sundays through Wednesdays through November 6. Show begins at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $15.
