Things are gonna get real New Orleans today at Frontier (1072 N. Milwaukee) at their first annual Gumbo Cookoff, which pits chefs from an impressive range of restaurants (Trencherman, Hugo's Frog Bar, etc.) against non-chef (but certainly qualified) other cooking enthusiasts (GB's own Brandy Gonsoulin among them) in the battle of who can make the best gumbo. The contest kicks off at 2pm.
The Polish Film Festival in America runs Nov. 8-24. Films screen at Facets Cinematheque, 1517 W. Fullerton Ave., Gallery Theatre, 1112 N. Milwaukee Ave., and Muvico Rosemont 18, 9701 Bryn Mawr Ave. in Rosemont. See the full schedule for details. Co-creators Ben Hollis and John Davies present the premiere of "The Golden Age of Wild Chicago," a DVD collecting the best segments of the hit Channel 11 TV show, at the Patio Theater, 6008 W.
