It Might Get Dark @ Fountainhead
Fountainhead (1970 W. Montrose Ave) celebrates the dark side of beer starting at 4:00 p.m. today. They'll have a cask of Revolution Eugene Porter with Dark Matter Coffee Beans, a bottle list of their own cellared and barrel-aged dark beers, as well as a selection of dark draft beers on hand. Prices for draft beers range from $6-$12. No cover.
Applied Words: Notes from the Mainframe
Gapers Block and FreeGeek Chicago co-sponsor Notes from the Mainframe, the latest in the Guild Literary Compex's Applied Words series, tonight from 7:30 to 9pm at FreeGeek, 3411 W. Diversey Ave. The evening will include poetry about technology by Catherine Halley, director of digital programs at the Poetry Foundation; Daniel X. O’Neil, executive director of Smart Chicago Collaborative; Stephanie Plenner, founder of Chicago Literary Map; and Andrew Huff, editor of Gapers Block, and there will also be an open mic. Admission is free.
Have Gun Will Travel @ Tonic Room
Have Gun Will Travel plays at the Tonic Room, 2447 N. Halsted St., tonight, with Brandon Cunningham and Jaik Willis opening. Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door. This show as part of the Chicago Bluegrass & Blues Festival, running Jan. 10-Feb. 1. Doors open at 8pm. 21+
David Broza @ City Winery
Israeli musician David Broza will be playing a set at City Winery to celebrate the release of his new album, East Jerusalem / West Jerusalem. He will be joined by singer Mira Awad. Tickets are available in tiers ranging from $30-$40, and the show begins at 8pm with doors opening at 6pm.
