New Lincoln Park Theater for Porchlight

Lincoln Park looks to be getting a new theater and cultural center at 1425 W. Fullerton. A group of investors has purchased the recently landmarked Fullerton State Bank building and plan to retrofit it for two performance spaces. Porchlight Music Theatre will be the principal occupant, though “complimentary” theater groups and acoustical musical acts will be invited to share the venue at some point in the future.

The Sun-Times and Trib coverage depict the new non-profit venture as a perfect storm of low real-estate prices, a homeless company, and a group of individuals eager to help them find a permanent space. They hope to open the 299-seat theater in the fall of 2009, just in time to begin Porchlight’s fifteenth season.
