Teenager of the Year Goes West

Every March the nation's coolest kids head to Austin, TX for South by Southwest, a series of film, interactive, and music festivals and conferences where the newest emerging artsists and technologies are showcased. This year, two of Chicago's own will be heading down for the SXSW Film Festival, where their short film will be presented. Teenager of the Year, also known as Joe Avella and Tim Racine, made Scatterbrained!, which will be shown as part of the "Midnight Shorts" series.

They describe the film as follows:

Huddled around an old classroom overhead projector, Tim and Joe give us the straight dope on Scatterbrainedness: What it is, where it comes from, how to get it, how to avoid it, and where it comes from. (Yes, you read that right.)... Scatterbrained! was made as an entry for the iO Theater's December '07 Vidiocy Competition. It was filmed in one night, edited in one afternoon, and cost no money (if you don't count the 6 pack of PBR tall boys consumed during the filming)...Its acceptance into the SXSW Film Festival is quite an amusing achievement to Joe and Tim considering it will play along side other more "professional" films with lots of "fancy stuff" like dolly tracks, multiple camera set ups, professional actors, plots, characters, a definitive beginning, middle and/or end, lighting... We could go on.

If you're going to be in Austin you can find details about Scatterbrained! showing in "Midnight Shorts" here, and if you want to check Teenager of the Year out in Chicago, they'll be at the Playground Theatre's Grafitti series March 20, 27, and April 3. Details here.

I'm so excited about this because I LOVE Teenager of the Year. Their YouTube videos don't really do them justice yet, though. Their live shows will blow your mind!
