A Boner a Day Keeps the Doctor Away
The Chicago improv comedy group Octavarius doesn't think we use the word "boner" enough in our daily lives. Starting today, they aim to change that. In pursuit of Octavarius' mission to "Find Fun Everywhere," today they light the fuse on their first Fun Activism campaign. The mission? To make "boner" the Oxford English Dictionary Word of the Day. In the official press release for this event, they wrote that they feel driven to accomplish their goal because "boner is one of, if not the, most fun words in English. By making it the Word of the Day, we can celebrate, explore, and honor this great word."
Octavarius has teamed up with twelve other companies who feel similarly inspired by the word "boner": Chemically Imbalanced Comedy, pH Productions, MISSION IMPROVable, Claymore Productions, Nothing Special Productions, CNGM Pictures, Hugs 'n Pull Ups, More Productions, Improv Mafia, Sam Hill, Boom Boom Washington, and Accidental VJ. And the list grows...
If they succeed, everyone who wishes can see the etymology, historical pronunciation, and first English quotation of "boner" can do so. Don't be fooled, though, this is not just about a word. This is about banding together as a community of intelligent, creative people, and bridging the gap between art and life. This is about making the world a more fun place to live."We promise our audience we'll find fun everywhere. That doesn't stop when we leave the stage. Even the dictionary can be entertaining," said Octavarius' Vice President of Improv Operations, Brian Wohl, in the press release.
Starting now, this national campaign will be fueled by social media, an email petition, letter writing, and guerilla-style tactics until the deed is done.
Won't you lend a boner in this fight for fun?

"Gorilla-style tactics?" I fear to think. Try guerilla - less messy.
