Bridgeport Art Walk This Weekend
Bridgeport is home to a surprisingly bustling artistic community, from Co-Prosperity Sphere, run by the Public Media Institute to the Zhou B. Art Center. In an effort to raise awareness of that fact, the cultural spaces down there have teamed together for a "Bridgeport Art Walk" this weekend. At least seven (but probably more) exhibition/production spaces will open up to the public for us to meander around and gawk at their wares. The CAR website says that the walk will kick off each day (Friday, Oct. 15, Saturday and Sunday) at the Bridgeport Art Center at 1200 W 35th Street with the artists of Eastbank studios and then scatter throughout the neighborhood.
For a map of the spots that have been verified as participating in the art walk, click here (to download .doc). For a fancier looking map of the whole art district that might include places that aren't participating, click here (to download .pdf).
The schedule for the event is as follows:
- Friday, October 15 from 6pm - 10pm
- Saturday, October 16 from 12pm - 6pm
- Sunday, October 17 from 1pm - 5pm

At the Zhou B Art Center on Friday from 7-10 PM, join 4Art Inc Gallery for the closing reception of Somnambulist, a group show featuring artwork across all media.
Over 30 artists based in Chicago and across the country, with roots ranging from Pakistan to Argentina, Germany to Hong Kong, explore and implore the dream world. Far from the restrictive setting of a salon squarely delineated by white walls, Somnambulist is a sensory experience that defies convention; guests are invited to wander through the 14,000 sq. ft. exhibition room with artwork suspended from its high ceilings, the negative space that surrounds each piece feeding the dreamlike atmosphere. The result is a gripping Gesamtkunstwerk, the dialogue between artist and audience likened to that of a lucid dream, of a place in which potential and agency are infinite.
Live performances. Music by DJ Shannon Harris. Wine. Catering by Pilsen's critical and fan favorite May St. Cafe. Curated by Jenny Lam and Robin Rios. The artists and curators will be present. ALL FREE.
