The Neo-Futurists celebrate bad film through performance
The Neo-Futurists are bringing back their celebrated series It Came From the Neo-Futurarium for its tenth incarnation. If you're not familiar with the troupe's series, It Came From the Neo-Futurarium X: Battle for the Neo-Futurarium will be a guaranteed treat. Each year the Neo-Futurists pick ten of the worst film of all time and perform them throughout the summer. This year's run, spanning June 16 through August 18, has the group performing some great choices including Purple Rain, KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park, and Red Dawn (even though I think that movie is excellent). See the rest of the Neo-Futurists choices after the jump.
June 16: Night of the Lepus (1972), directed by Jason Meyer.
June 23: Tiptoes (2003), directed by Noelle Krimm.
June 30: The Black Hole (1979), directed by Jen Ellison and Dave Stinton.
July 7: The Care Bears Movie (1985), directed by Nathan Allen and performed by The House Theatre.
July 14: Devil Girl from Mars (1954), directed by Edward Thomas-Herrera.
July 21: KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park (1978), directed by John Pierson and Steve Walker.
July 28: The Apple (1980), directed by David Kodeski.
August 11: Red Dawn (1984), directed by Phil Ridarelli.
August 18: Purple Rain (1984), directed by Mike Przygoda. After the Purple Rain performance the group will celebrating it's tenth anniversary with food, drinks and absolutely ridiculous awards.
All performances take place at The Neo-Futurarium (5153 N. Ashland) on the aforementioned dates. Tickets are $10 or $8 for students with ID and repeat customers. You can find more information, including ticketing information, on the Neo-Futurists' website or by calling 773-275-5255. A limited-edition 10th anniversary poster designed by Phineas X. Jones will also be sold during each performance.
