Improv Group Gets on its (8) Legs for 35 weeks
Octavarius, a Chicago comedy group and headliner for closing night of the Chicago Improv Festival, takes the stage on Sunday, June 19 at 7pm, at The ComedySportz Theatre Chicago (929 W. Belmont Ave.) for opening night of a 35-week run.
Octavarius is far from an octopus out of water! The group creates a completely unique show and utilizes special themes as inspiration each Sunday. During the 90-minute show, Octavarius weaves together scripted comedy based on the night's theme, special guest performances and classic Whose Line is it Anyway? style improv games, closing with a 40-minute non-stop, entirely improvised set distilled from one audience suggestion.
Themes from past shows include Intergalactic, Hipster-prov and Kindergarten, plus the occasional special performance like A Titanic of a Heartbreak: The Unsinkable Valentine's Day Show,How Hans Gruber Stole Christmas: A Die Hard Holiday Spectacular and Battle for the Belt.
"Octavarius has performed with pro-wrestlers and a robot, released two albums and will soon be headlining closing night of CIF," says Brian Wohl, Vice President of Live Entertainment for Octavarius. "We can't wait to top all that with this upcoming run."
Every Monday leading up to the show, Octavarius releases a live, interactive podcast inspired by the week's theme. Throughout the week, the group crafts content inspired by the theme on Octavarius.com. Each Sunday, the group dresses to the theme.
Tickets are $10, but audience members who dress for the theme get tickets for a discounted rate of $7. For more information, please visit Octavarius.com, or contact Robin Clement at robin@octavarius.com.
