Chicago Global Runway
Fashion is truly a part of Chicago's cultural landscape; from flashy, upscale boutiques to local fashionistas, the city has definitely made its mark in the world of fashion.
Recently, at the Chicago Cultural Center, fashion lovers experienced the first ever Chicago Global Runway, which showcased amazing South Asian-inspired fashion by both local and international designers, including Chicago's own Sahar Dada. Dada, whose modern, trendy designs adorned the runway, has always loved creating with fashion. "When you design, you want to do any and everything," she said.
The runway models also wore designs from the Khoobsurat Collection by Mani Kohli, a London-based designer who has styled The Pussycat Dolls and singer Jay Sean; in addition, fashions by designer Payal Singhal, whose designs are for everyone from the "traditional Indian bride to the New York fashionista" and famed Chicago boutique, Akira, were also part of the show.
The audience was also treated to a special guest appearance by international supermodel Saira Mohan, who was on hand to see the runway models in action. For Mohan, the fashion definitely made a statement. "I was impressed with all the designers," she said.
In addition to serving as a vehicle for up-and-coming designers, Chicago Global Runway gives back to the community via its partner, Save A Mother, a non-profit organization whose mission is to reduce India's maternal and infant mortality rate.
