Beast Women: Summer Series Closes Tonight
The Beast Women, who's closing show is tonight at the Greenhouse Theater, are a cabaret-style show unlike any I have ever seen. I attended the show last week, and while all-women performance groups are a dime a dozen in Chicago, I really appreciated the variety and diversity in the lineup.
The rotating showcase, created by producer/writers Jill Erikson and Michelle Power, showcases women of all genres of performance. The night that I attended included performance-art bull-fighting, stand-up comedy, a clown, some very talented vocal acts and dancing that crossed ballet, burlesque, martial arts and belly dancing. I was pretty impressed with the fact that not only were the acts each so original, but they were all good; the mark of a good producer and great artists.
The "Beasties", as they refer to themselves, have left the tired debate of whether women are funny in the dust and are, simply, funny, among many other things. Closing night of Beast Women's summer series is tonight at 10:30, and I highly suggest you check it out.
If you are a woman, a performer, a performer who is a woman or just someone who appreciates a solid showcase, get to the Greenhouse Theater (2257 North Lincoln). Tickets are available here.
