Weekend Art Pick: East Garfield Park Open Houses

There are a bunch of shows opening in the West Loop tonight, but if only because of its sheer breadth (and that's not the only reason), if you can only go to one "art event" this weekend (because those are the parameters I've committed to for this weekly column), go to East Garfield Park.
I'm kind of cheating here because EGP is Chicago Artists Month's featured neighborhood this weekend so there's a lot going on, which I'm going to go ahead and bundle into one. I've got to narrow it down to the essential points of interest for this post, but make sure to check out the Chicago Artist's Month page for details about the plethora of events in the area that I'm leaving out.
Tonight from 6 to 9pm the Garfield Park Conservatory opens its indoor and outdoor grounds to the public tonight, featuring spoken word, poet, sound and performance artists with West Side roots. Artists include poet/singer Marvin Tate (among other delights, the front man of party-funk band D-Settlement), spoken word artist Awthentik, and David Houston, representing the Chicago West Community Music Center. Local favorite Theaster Gates will present on his expanded artistic practice, public art, funding, and community engagement.
On Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6pm, I'd recommend the East Garfield Park Art Walk, which hundreds of artists who work in the area participate in, by means of open studios, exhibits, performances and outdoor installations. Spaces include:
