Giordano Dance Chicago returns to the stage October 24 as the company tackles old favorites and a new piece by award-winning choreographer, Ray Leeper.
"Ray's connection with GDC began many years ago when my father, company founder Gus Giordano, pulled the 12-year-old Ray up on stage during a workshop at a dance convention," said Giordano Dance Chicago artistic director Nan Giordano in a statement. "Since then, the relationship has grown."
Leeper's Broadway piece, Feeling Good Sweet, features the entire company. The October performance marks the world premiere of the piece, as well as Leeper's first time choreographing for Giordano Dance Company.
"I had wanted to create a work for GDC for many years, but we couldn't find the right time...until now," Leeper said in a statement. "It has been a true pleasure to finally have the opportunity to work with the amazing GDC dancers to create this new work." Along with Leeper's piece, dancers will perform EXit4 by Roni Koresh, Entropy by David Robertson and A Ritual Dynamic, choreographed by Jon Lehrer.
Feeling Good Sweet is part of GDC's 52 years of professional dance in Chicago, and the performances take place at the Harris Theater, 205 E. Randolph St.
"Ray's exhilarating new work not only reflects his deep understanding of the company and our roots, but GDC's core belief in the joy dance holds for dancer and audience members alike," Giordano said.
Tickets are $15 to $75 and can be purchased at harristheaterchicago.org or by calling 312-334-7777. The show runs Oct. 24 and 25 at 7:30pm.
