(re)discover theatre Explores Shakespeare's Bawdiest Bits
It's an orgy in which cast and audience explore gender roles, sexuality and kink told through classic scenes from Shakespeare's 37-play canon. It's the Bard's bawdiest bits in (re)discover theatre's updated show, Fifty Shades of Shakespeare, opening Feb. 7 at The Pony.
The (re)discover ensemble conceptualized and staged the production for the first time last year. This year the show is stripped down to four actors, 11 scenes and 25 roles. Last year, the actors chose roles by lottery before each show. This year, the audience will choose which actor plays which role.
Fifty Shades of Shakespeare is directed by Ann Kreitmann and features Gary Henderson, Andrew Lund, Kelly Schmidt and Shaina Schrooten. Jack Wallace handles text coaching; fight direction is by Aaron Pagel; costume and props design are by Janet Howe; and sound design by Matt Wills.
Fifty Shades of Shakespeare runs at 7:30 pm Friday, Saturday and Monday Feb. 7-23 (with an extra 9:30pm show on Feb. 14) at The Pony, 1638 W. Belmont. Tickets are $10 and can be reserved online. Follow them on Twitter at #50ShadesofShakes.
