50 States of Gay: A LGBTQ Comedy Sketch Debut

Let Freedom (Cock) Ring!

As of June 26, 2015, the U.S. of A. now has given everyone the opportunity to marry whomever they like regardless of gender. As each state has had its battle with the decision on a different timeline, this five-person crew has created a new show called 50 States of Gay, produced by GayCo Productions. 50 States of Gay shows the fight for equality taking you through all 50 states in a series of shows, each of which is chosen by chance through the audience's selection. Picking a state from a hat each week, the cast creates original content that becomes the theme for the next show. The hybrid sketch-variety experience has many art forms (songs, puppetry, stand up, interpretative dance, lesbian break-up scenes and more), and presents the lingering truth (and penis/vagina jokes!) in its own patriotic style.

The ensemble members are Kathy Betts, Clay Goodpasture, Robin Trevino, Zach Zimmerman and Jessica Belless.

Starting with Massachusetts (due to the first same-sex marriage ruling in 2004), the show will premiere at Under the Gun Theater, 956 W Newport Ave. It previews Saturday, September 12 at 7:30pm and opens September 19 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15 ($10 for students) and can be purchased by calling (773) 270-3440 or online here.

GayCo Productions is a non-for-profit LGBTQ theatre company that creates lesbian/gay revues. Starting from a lesbian and gay workshop at Second City in 1996, GayCo has evolved to perform at various locations around the city of Chicago. Whether it's a fundraiser, function or local event, the staff has performed over 27 sketch comedy revues around the country, popular not only in Chicago, but in Los Angeles and even have been featured in Amsterdam!

Each of us have our own version of the LGBTQ fight for equality, whether for- or against it, being part of the LGBTQ community or not. Now that same-sex marriage is protected, the joke possibilities are endless and 50 States of Gay hopes to suck them all out.
