Dim Sum 101
A friend of mine attended a demonstration cooking class at The Chopping Block in the Merchandise Mart this past weekend. Because it was Chinese New Year, dim sum was on the menu. Chef Ariel Bagadiong prepared shrimp dumplings, sesame seed balls, vegetable gow dumplings, and BBQ pork buns for a hungry audience.
Chef Bagadiong prepares dim sum in the Chopping Block demonstration kitchen
While the recipes involved mostly specialized ingredients and techniques that don't come together easily on your typical Tuesday night, Chef Bagadiong did give pointers on how to deep fry and steam your food properly so as not to end up with a soggy mess. I'm hoping to reap the benefits of this class myself as soon as my friend gets ambitious enough to whip up a batch of dumplings in his own kitchen...

I am the "friend" in this post. Appoligies to Chef Bagadigong for working "under cover" for the "press." I'm hoping you won't mind the free PR. I found the demonstration class at the Chopping Block thoroughly enjoyable. And can't wait to try Chef Bagadigong's class: "Everyone loves Bacon."
