Oak Park Cheese
On a recent trip to Oak Park, I found the Marion Street Cheese Market, tucked into a corner behind the vast construction site that is Marion Street right now. The shop is small but chock full of wine, fondue pots, gourmet condiments, and dairy products, of course. The staff was eager to help, offering samples and plentiful advice on putting together a cheese plate for a small dinner party. They even had an open bottle of wine on hand to sip while tasting the cheese.
I bought a slice of Roquefort, a wedge of goat cheese called Krotovina (made by at Prairie Fruits Farm by a couple of scientists from the University of Illinois), and a chunk of sharp, white cheddar. All three were delicious and quite different from one another. Stop in for a taste when you're in the area; you won't be disappointed.

I can't say enough good things about Marion St. Cheese Market. My husband and I have made weekly trips since we moved to Oak Park two years ago, and Eric Larson and his staff have been fantastically helpful and friendly. It's also a great place to get under-the-radar wines and yummy antipasti. They'll be moving to a huge space this fall and (I think) will have table service for small plates. It's great to see such a high-quality local business succeed.
