Metropolis: more than just coffee
Chances are, you've tasted Metropolis coffee. It's now served at many Chicago restaurants and coffee shops. But maybe you haven't made the trek up to Granville to the Metropolis Cafe. Yes, it gets crowded with Loyola students and local residents, but there's a reason for that. The coffee is always hot and fresh, and the food is pretty good as well.
For breakfast, there is a wide variety of baked goods available, including buttery almond croissants and granola from Milk and Honey. For lunch, there are sandwiches, salads and soups. A chicken chili that was featured recently as one of the two soups-of-the-day was hearty and slightly spicy, perfect for a cold day. And of course, it isn't hard to find something appealing for dessert: cookies, cake, pie, you name it. What's available is always fresh, which is why there's no real fixed menu. My advice is to come in and see what looks good. The secret's out on Metropolis, so get there early to enjoy the coffee and pastries before the crowds arrive.
