Mmm, Midweek Quick Links

• Sam's Wine & Spirits has launched Toast, a new PDF magazine about, you guessed it, wine, beer, spirits and a little cheese.

MenuPages Blog takes a look at the top 100 hottest menus of 2007.

Chicago Bites lists its top picks for 2007. (The podcast also hit Alinea recently.)

• Bitespot is on a Southern kick, serving up recipes for red velvet cake, collard greens and hoppin' john. Foodmomiac's got the black-eyed peas and ham hocks.

• At Centerstage, LTHForum cofounder Gary Wiviott gets the Five for Frying treatment.

• The Food Chain's "Whole Hog Project" takes us to the killing floor with part two of the slaughter of two hogs (here's part one.)

• Joelen's Culinary Adventures is sporting a spiffy new design, and she's making waffles.

• Beer (& More) In Food offers some don't's and do's for ordering drinks at a bar. (It was meant as a pre-NYE primer, but it's good advice year-round.

• The Eating the World bloggers are going to be Zagat reviewers (are they supposed to tell anyone?) Check out their brief on Canady le Chocolatier.

• Speaking of Zagat, the Stew takes a look at a 20 year old Zagat Guide.

• Eating on Jitneys experiences the wonders of Stone Soup.

• A little Blackbird foodporn at Veal Cheeks.

Have a Bite of short rib ragu.

• The Digestive Diva tried making quinoa cookies, and they look good.

• Inspired by Big Night, the Proud Italian Cook and her family dared to attempt a timpano (or timballo) -- to great success.

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the shout out regarding my Timpano that I made. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw your comment today. I was born in Chicago and live in the burbs now, and I so much enjoy blogging about being Italian American, in this city filled with so much history of food! Not to mention all of my familiy food trditions. I really appreciate that you noticed.
Thanks Again,
Marie
