The Twelve Days of Christmas: Day 12
For my final recipe, I'm sharing my Mom's sugar cookies. Since it's Christmas, I'm sure most of you are no longer baking cookies, but you can make these any time of the year. Like many of the other recipes I've shared, these aren't too sweet and they are pretty simple to make. They also freeze well. Enjoy!
Sugar Cookies
- 3 c. flour
- 1 t. soda
- 1 t. baking powder
- 1 t cream or tatar
- 3/4 c. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. butter
Mix above ingredients until coarse like cornmeal. Add:
- 2 eggs
- 2 T. vanilla
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 T. cream
Mix well and roll out on floured board and cut out using cookie cutters. Bake @350 for 8 - 10 minutes or until golden brown. Use vanilla butter cream frosting below and frost when cool.
Vanilla Butter Cream
- 4 c. powder sugar
- 1/4 t. salt
- 1/4 c. milk
- 1 t. vanilla
- 1/3 c. soft butter
Beat until fluffy - this recipe can be cut if half depending on how much you like frosting.
Merry Christmas!
