Recession? What Recession?

Despite the nation's financial upheaval, high-end restaurants are not really feeling the pain; a Bloomberg article quoted Alinea co-owner Nick Kokonas's plans to expand his restaurant's private dining space, as well as mentioning that a "non-U.S. automaker" client has rented out Alinea for a private party one night next month to the tune of $25,000+. And just so you know, Alinea accepts payment plans for their less wealthy diners.

Are you kidding or serious about Alinea's payment plans?

Lisa Grignon / January 14, 2009 8:59 PM

This reminded me of something your readers might enjoy knowing about; a chicago food tour. If Alinea is offering payment plans, then I suggest eating at Chicago's premiere specialty food stores and ethnic eateries for a lot less than eating at Alinea and feeling much fuller at the end. We took Chicago Food Planet food tours Near North Food Tour in November, been raving about it ever since. With a recession in full effect, a $42 tour of Chicago's top eats and chicago foods is a no brainer. Plus we learned about the history and culture of Chicago's best foodie neighborhoods. We found them at http://www.chicagofoodplanet.com and you won't be disappointed. We're Chicago locals and don't need a payment plan!

We took the tour also. Great mention if on an article about Alinea nonetheless, but important to point out. Chicago Tours of Food presented by Chicago Food Planet Food Tours is their actual link. Bon Appetit!

The State of Food Writing

By Brandy Gonsoulin

In 2009, food blogging, social media and Yelp were gaining popularity, and America's revered gastronomic magazine Gourmet shuttered after 68 years in business. Former Cook's Illustrated editor-in-chief Chris Kimball followed with an editorial, stating that "The shuttering of Gourmet reminds...
