How to Solve a Fishy Problem:

With Lent in full swing, fish has been making a bigger splash on dinner plates! But did you know that over 60 percent of choking incidents in children are food-related* with fish bones cited as a potential cause*? For all those other times that you cannot go to tasty fish fries and have to prepare fish at home, fish bones may initially go unnoticed. When swallowed, they can pose a serious hazard for children and adults alike!

Mishaps happen, but being prepared is no accident. Keep your family safe this Lenten season and for the rest of the year, too. The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago offers basic life-saving courses on CPR and First Aid that will teach you how to recognize the signals of when someone is choking and train you how to properly take action. Learn from skilled instructors and interactive demonstrations, and get valuable hands-on practice so you will be ready when you need to be!

For a listing of health and safety training classes available in your area, visit www.chicagoredcross.org or call (312) 729-6100 for more information.
