Benchmark Set to Open in Old Town
The last two years have been fickle for restaurants, bars, bakeries and nationally franchised creameries trying to make a go of it in Old Town. While some have flourished (The Twisted Baker, Perennial, Old Town Social), many more have - metaphorically speaking - burned down, fallen over, and sunk into the swamp (Eivissa, Old Town Brasserie, Spoon).
That's why we've watched the progress being made on Four Corners Tavern's newest venture, Benchmark, with particular interest. Some of us lucky ones could even hear the progress all spring because we live so close that incessant amounts of hammering would wake us up every morning at 7:00am. Even on Saturdays.
But that's all behind us now! So onto the food.
From their Press Release:
"Four Corners Tavern Group's Executive Chef [Jim Hoban] treats diners to signature items including specialty individual pizzas like the Meatball Pomodoro, Korean Steak Tacos, various MiniWiches, the infamous Skillet Cookie and a wide variety of hearty salads and sandwiches. Beer-lovers will find something to enjoy on Benchmark's drink menu, which offers 34 bottle beers and 12 draft beers and a wide selection of 31 wines."
The multi-level tavern also features 46 plasma screen TVs and a massive, 6-panel video wall. "Guests seated in any area will be able to simultaneously watch three to four games."
When's it going to open? Great question. Word on the street is they've pushed the official opening from the first week of August to "sometime next week."
Either way, we're just excited to finally be able to have a drink on the rooftop deck, rather than merely curse it (and the power tools that made it) from our bedroom window.
