Food Trucks Wed Oct 12 2011
Tacos on Wheels
There has been much speculation over how Paul Kahan would get around the law that still bars people from cooking on food trucks; turns out, he's giving away the tacos for free.
A tweet last night announced the "maiden voyage" of the truck at the corner of Fulton and Wood, where people were trickling in and out for the fish and al pastor tacos. Far fewer people than you might expect, actually, considering the operative words here are "free" and "tacos."
In addition to food and drink, Big Star staff was handing out flyers asking that you email your alderman to show support for the growing food truck scene:
Currently the Chicago food code does not allow for cooking freshly prepared food on vehicles. Permitting cooking on food trucks will promote job growth and offer affordable food options to Chicagoans. Please show your support for the small business owner by contacting your alderman and urging him or her to push the Food Truck Ordinance through.
And how were the tacos, you ask? Definitely worth a drive down to the weirdly-abandoned spot on Fulton. Let's hope we see them able to push this law through so there are more tacos where that came from.

so, you ~drove~ to a food truck? what?
if paul were really serious about "promoting job growth and offering affordable food options to Chicagoans" he could just as easily open another taco joint in an underserved neighborhood, rather than jumping on the latest trend and driving his truck to where the hipsters are.
you've just proven that people will go to wherever he is. he doesn't need to be peddling his grub off the back of a truck. he could really be doing great things to help spur foot traffic and interest in an under-developed stretch of retail somewhere.
