Dear Diary: My Afternoon at Jam
I went to Jam for the first time at its new Logan Square location, and it was a fabulous event.
After sitting and talking to the owner, Jerry Suqi, my attention was brought to the awesome-ness of the decor. My eyes were drawn to the walls. Chicago-based design duo INDO stenciled the walls, which were modeled after the ceiling.
The food, overseen by ex-Charlie Trotter's and North Pond chef Jeffrey Mauro, used to be just brunch, but Jam has now expanded its offerings to include blue-plate and nightly dinner specials. Each meal at Jam is treated with the highest level of veneration and culinary craftsmanship, all while maintaining an accessible approach and a commitment to affordability. I could truly taste the time spent on each dish.
Chef Mauro's gastronomic ethics are marked by the use of pure ingredients, handmade components and an unwavering devotion to his craft.
While I was there, I enjoyed the Malted Custard French Toast with macerated stone fruit, lime leaf cream, and crushed pink peppercorns -- a dish that was chosen as Food & Wine's "10 Best Dishes In The Country". It was insanely light and airy... not your average "at-home" french toast, that's for sure!
Another fantastic characteristic of Jam was that I felt at ease there. I looked around and took in the leisure of other customers as well. We all have either been or know of someone that has been "rushed" out of a restaurant. It ain't a good feelin'! This was not the case at Jam. I felt extremely comfortable and welcome to stay if I chose.
Jam is open daily from 7am to 9pm at 3057 W. Logan Blvd. Breakfast and lunch is served all day, and dinner commences at 5pm.
