Preview Nellcôte this Tuesday
If you had an opportunity to watch Stones in Exile, the documentary of the recording of the seminal Rolling Stones album Exile on Main St., you were probably taken by their choice of studio--Villa Nellcôte, a sprawling 19th century-era mansion on the French Riviera. The recording sessions weren't without their share of drama, interpersonal conflict and technical problems; however, the end product stands as one of the best (if not the best) albums made by the legendary group.
Let's hope that the upcoming Nellcôte, which will open in March in the former location of Marche (833 W Randolph), has more consistent luck than Mick and Keith. Jared Van Camp, who made his mark at Old Town Social, has created a menu of French, Italian and Spanish cuisine (think radiatore with braised duck, brioche with with foie, cherries, and pistachio)--all locally sourced to an extreme: instead of a coked-out Charlie Watts drumming away in the basement, there's a flour mill for what promises to be meticulously well-made breads and pastas.
Does this not sound tantalizing? Nellcôte and Drive-Thru would like you and a friend to take a look at the place and sample some of their wares this Tuesday (6-8pm) for Villa Nellcôte's "Evening of Exile," which will be a little VIP soiree complete with cocktails and passed hors d'oeuvres.
