Good Food Festival Tickets On Sale
If spending the day drinking copious amounts of green Miller Light doesn't fit into your schedule next weekend, maybe a different kind of green-themed day might? Chicago's Good Food Festival (fka Family Farmed Expo) provides an opportunity to meet Midwest artisans and farmers, attend seminars on growing and making food, and get a big picture look at Chicago's local food scene.
Just like last year, Thursday and Friday's agenda is targeted for those involved in the commercial side of local food with speakers and activities focused on financing, networking and production of local food.
The folks at GFF made some aggressive changes to Saturday's schedule. The workshops, which I thought lacked focus and practical knowledge last year have been split into more hands-on, intensive morning sessions. Four three-hour long intensive workshops have been designed to empower festival goers to better participate in the DIY movement of local food:
- The Whole Animal: Butchering and Sausage Making Demo with Rob Levitt of The Butcher & Larder
- Permaculture: Sustainable Gardening Following Nature's Design with Bill Wilson of Midwest Permaculture
- Preserving Food: A Four-Season Masterplan with David Cavagnaro of Seed Savers Exchange
- Urban and Vertical Farming Bus Tour
The rest of Saturday's schedule continues with the Good Food Festival itself: a expo filled with over 100 vendors, local food producers, and chef demos. Plus a smattering of shorter Grow Your Own, Preserve It, Make It, Good Food For Thought themed-workshops. Saturday's full schedule can be found here. Ticket information and fees are below. Purchase online, before the event for a discount.
