LTHForum.com Celebrates Annual GNR Awards at Manny's
Manny's Deli was the setting for this year's LTHForum Great Neighborhood Restaurant & Resources Awards Monday night. And in keeping with the setting, forum members and award winners piled their trays high with braised lamb shanks and knishes, corned beef sandwiches and matzo ball soup before settling down to celebrate the GNR's latest additions.
Not all of the award winners were present, but those who were were excited for the honor. Some notes of interest:
After listening to his restaurant, La France Cafe & Crepes, described as making wonderful crepes despite not having a real kitchen, the jubilant Chef Ben Mchabcheb took to the mic to insist, "I do have a kitchen!"
It was revealed that "nha hang" means "restaurant" in Vietnamese -- so forum members have been the GNR award winning Nha Hang Viet Nam as "restaurant" for short all this time.
Rip's Tavern, the second oldest restaurant in the GNR, is the farthest from Chicago, at 130 miles one way.
Troha's Chicken & Shrimp House is the oldest award winner, founded more than 90 years ago.
Tony Hu, the first two-time GNR winner, revealed that he will soon add a spicy crawfish dish to the menu at Lau Hunan.
