Lula Cafe Closed for Renovations

In case you missed it, Logan Square's favorite Lula Cafe announced on its website that it is closing for renovations. The space officially closed Monday.
In a statement on the restaurant's website, owners Jason and Lea said:
In the years since we have served hundreds of thousands of people. Every night our cooks have scrubbed and scrapped until their elbows hurt. We have purchased well over 150 brooms, 10,000 sponges, hundreds of cases of bleach. Suffice to say--the place is worn out. There's like literal erosion happening today, as surfaces wear down to nil, the floor sinks, walls crumble behind aging, cracked tile.
So this January 5th we are closing for a short spell. We will disassemble all our kitchen equipment, some of which was built inside the space, and remove it from the line. In order to do this we actually have to remove an entire wall. Then we will tear all surfaces down and put them back again, this time with the knowledge of how to build something strong and sensible, easy to clean and easy on the eyes.
Management couldn't be reached for an reopening date, and owners Jason and Lea report that nothing else will change (except maybe some exciting new visions from a kitchen staff with a new pad I'm guessing). The closing occurs in their 15th year in operation. Hopefully it will return for another 15 more.
