Small salad at Bice on Ontario, only five bucks! (Fruit cup, $2 additional.)

Andrew / August 2, 2004 10:45 AM

On gas. However, since I only have to fill up once a week (I drive a Prius), I don't mind too much.

tony / August 2, 2004 10:48 AM

Lunch, baby. Whatever catches my eye.

Naz / August 2, 2004 10:56 AM

Either lunch or at Trader Joe's for groceries.

Steve / August 2, 2004 10:58 AM

With downtown inflation, we'll turn that fiver into seven bucks for lunch. Not sure if it'll be taco salad, Panda Express, or something from Luke's, though.

Mmmmm...Luke's still does their fries in lard. So it tastes like you're eating a burger when you're scarfing down the fries.

Benjy / August 2, 2004 10:59 AM

Lunch. Any suggestion?

Carly / August 2, 2004 11:00 AM

Lunch.

I really need to start bringing it...

Steve / August 2, 2004 11:01 AM

How far does five bucks really get you at Trader Joe's?

Unless you're in the mood for the most amazing potstickers ever...

j3s / August 2, 2004 11:01 AM

Since it's 11am, the next five bucks will go towards lunch. Which probably means a sandwich Cubano or the daily special and an "expresso" at Cafe con Leche in Logan Square. Whatever I get, lunch will be under five bucks, and yummy.

Naz / August 2, 2004 11:09 AM

"How far does five bucks really get you at Trader Joe's?"

Pretty far depending on what you get. But mostly I'm considering that the $5 will be part of a larger sum of money that'll get spent there.

Steve / August 2, 2004 11:31 AM

I'm just bitter that TJ's introduced Chimay at $5.99/bottle a few months ago, but now charge the same eight bucks that everyone else does.

Mmmmm, Chimay.

Shylo / August 2, 2004 11:31 AM

You can get a good-sized log of chevre, some fresh bread, and a zesty beverage for that $5 at TJ's.

Mike / August 2, 2004 12:04 PM

Probably on cigarettes. Then again, you can't really get very many brands for only five bucks in Chicago. I was in Kentucky recently and a carton goes for around 15 dollars down there, that kind of money would get you 3 or 4 packs here.

Archie / August 2, 2004 12:16 PM

To that dude that plays the drum in the tunnel at jackson blue to red line transfer..... yeah right! I'll probably spend my next $5 on some ice cream, my favorite legal high!

jenny / August 2, 2004 12:21 PM

Bread at the Medici to go with the bruscetta topping I brought for lunch. Then public trans home, since the car's in the shop ($900.00!!! for maintenance? Somebody shoot me now).

Craig / August 2, 2004 1:07 PM

Quite possibly on a few Tecates at the Pontiac tonight. Mmm, faux-imported Mexican Bud Light.

Pete / August 2, 2004 1:23 PM

Perhaps finally spending $4.99 at the bargain tables at Brent Books after countless non-purchasing visits. Or mebbe jes somethin' purty fer the missus.

Cinnamon / August 2, 2004 1:25 PM

On antacid. The "italian" sandwiches my company catered in for a meeting are making me none too happy. Damned red pepper aioli!

Wendy / August 2, 2004 1:27 PM

I'm gonna buy me some candy.

Dan / August 2, 2004 1:51 PM

On a sammich and a bubble tea.

vit / August 2, 2004 1:59 PM

I just spent it on some crap from corner bakery and am regretting that decision as I eat.

d4ve / August 2, 2004 3:05 PM

BoilerMaker at Delilah's

anne / August 2, 2004 3:18 PM

On a new package of chicken for dinner tonight, since my roomate left the freezer door open all night long. ungh.

Shylo / August 2, 2004 4:12 PM

Remember the good ol' days when a fiver would buy you 15 minutes with a good time Charlene? Ahhh.

Steve / August 2, 2004 4:23 PM

Would a fiver buy me 30 seconds at the J.C. Penney underwear sale with that model from Craig's List?

brian / August 2, 2004 4:24 PM

My next $5 will be spent on relieving world hunger, solving race relations, and promoting world peace (and possibly John Kerry). Lunch is for people without goals.

Kevin / August 2, 2004 4:35 PM

Kerry's election coffers?

Smokes?

Coffee?

Decisions, decisions!!

Dawson / August 2, 2004 4:37 PM

To buy Chipotle veggie tacos for Tuesday's "Chipotle/Outback Jack/Amazing Race Night"

Alex / August 2, 2004 5:02 PM

On this!

robin.. / August 2, 2004 5:29 PM

a beer. right now.

christian / August 2, 2004 5:48 PM

A shinny new drill bit! Or beer, or a really cheap beer and a crappy drill bit. Remember kids; don't operate power tools while under the influence of something, something...

free rock city / August 2, 2004 6:01 PM

is a nickel bag even still a unit of goods?

Lisa / August 2, 2004 6:34 PM

I am hoping to spend $5 on ice cream tonight, but if the phone doesn't ring, I guess it will go towards a lovely pancake breakfast.

Or, I could say that the $5 contributed to a bottle full of flea spray....

Awww / August 2, 2004 6:44 PM

You could put $5 towards the vet bills of this stray wiener doggy in North Carolina.

Joe / August 3, 2004 9:54 AM

$5 on 'My Aching Back' in the 3rd race.
200-1 payoff!

Jason / August 3, 2004 9:59 AM

I think I'll eat some breakfast, or lunch...I should eat one of those two meals, and probably just one, considering my next $5 is my last.

heather / August 3, 2004 10:34 AM

I am delighted to tell you that I have been trying to spend this $5 since you asked the question..and so far haven't been called upon to shell out! it's been a full day, night, and morning of generous strangers and friends.

I hope this fuel fortune lasts - Thanks, Gaper's Block!

kate / August 3, 2004 11:15 AM

my next five dollars? i'm still trying to figure out what happened to my last five dollars!

Lisa / August 3, 2004 11:40 AM

I got blown off for ice cream, AND blown off for pancakes! Won't anyone let me spend my $5??!

steve_sleeve / August 3, 2004 11:52 AM

Arby's.

(Even though the 5 for $5 deal is a thing of the past.)

j0hn / August 3, 2004 11:58 AM

soynuts and beer...good beer, Pere Jacques

tim / August 3, 2004 12:07 PM

Beer sure sounds nice, but I'll settle for a gyros from Squab's!

teetee / August 3, 2004 2:22 PM

2 one-way trips thru the skyway. That's to home and back to work again. Thanks Chicago!

Eamon / August 3, 2004 4:46 PM

I spent mine on a donation to Gapers Block. How do you like me now?
