Question suggested by Emerson.

Brandy / July 22, 2007 8:39 PM

Dr. David Center
847-677-0080
9933 Lawler Ave Suite 204
Skokie, IL 60077
http://www.davidcenterdds.com

He is great. I found him b/c he's the family dentist of a good friend. He's very tell-it-like-it-is, and will explain your treatment options. He's a 1 DDS practice and you get a lot of attention from him personally.

Stephen / July 22, 2007 8:56 PM

Floss Dental Studio
Dr. Michelle Radeka, D.M.D.
1745 West Division Street
Chicago, Illinois 60622
773-235-2322

I really like Dr. Radeka. I am NOT someone who likes going to the dentist but she has great chair-side manner, and all the fancy equipment to make it as easy and non-freaky as possible. Plus you can watch Ali G or the Chappelle Show while getting cleaned :-)

Only problem is that she's getting pretty popular from what I can tell, and it's been a little more difficult to book an appt. I'm sure it doesn't help that people like me are posting about how great she is!

Carlotta / July 22, 2007 9:01 PM

Deborah Beaty, DDS.

Her offices are in the Garland Building at Wabash & Washington in the Loop.

Real chatty, puts you at ease, is straightforward on what you need to do. I "inherited" her when my original dentist retired and sold his practice.

In recent years her office offers a hot parafin hand treatment while you get worked on, along with a vibrating massage pad on the chair. For real long procedures you can have a walkman & tune into the radio station of your choice.

Shylo / July 22, 2007 10:49 PM

Viren Patel at DowntownDentalLLC.com. He is amazing. I've referred a dozen people to him. He's young, has a cool office, and remembers you.

Mikey / July 23, 2007 12:02 AM

Great question, seeing as I am currently looking for a new dentist...

I haven't been entirely happy with Mid-America Dental on Lincoln Ave--she's openly condescending to her help, as is evidenced by the constant turnover of hygienists. I have no specific issues with the work she's done on me, just that she's just rather unprofessional in general. Her office is rather small and cramped too, and not as modern-looking as I would like to see in a practice such as dentistry...

Leelah / July 23, 2007 7:59 AM

Chicago, Illinois 60657

A wonderful dentist I learned about from a woman in line at the grocery store while I overheard her raving about what a great dentist she had. Great staff, nice doctor. Highly recommended!

Cristin / July 23, 2007 9:33 AM

Dr. Fred Purcell
Sheridan & Belmont (or thereabouts)

Went to him after a referral from a friend. A previous dentist told me that I needed five fillings and my two old ones replaced. I wanted a second opinion since I never had many problems with cavities. I brought my x-rays in to Dr. Purcell, he took a look at them and then my mouth and said "were they even looking at the same mouth?". His recommendation: "I wouldn't do a thing."

anna / July 23, 2007 9:44 AM

I second Shylo's recommendation of Viren Patel at Downtown Dental. He's got a great manner, and some really neat high-tech equipment. (Like he has a little camera that projects your teeth onto a large TV screen so you can see all the little cracks, grind-marks, etc., that he's telling you about.)

fluffy / July 23, 2007 10:02 AM

I've been looking for a dentist. Thanks!

kelly / July 23, 2007 10:09 AM

If you need extensive dental work, I would actually recommend Dr James Kakos in Schaumburg. He also has the hightech equipment, but specializes in cosmetic procedures-- when I had to have my front teeth crowned, he re-did another dentists work so that it looked natural (with muc less pain than the other guy). He's not cheap, but he is probably the best dentist I've ever had.

Eamon / July 23, 2007 10:14 AM

Dr. Roxanna Khaghani, DDS
2521 N Lincoln Ave
Chicago, IL 60614
(773) 871-0336

I've only just started seeing her, but both she and her staff are incredibly informative, patient, and helpful. I came in for some emergency work and couldn't have been happier with the result.

Carrie / July 23, 2007 10:27 AM

The Harv AKA Dr. Harvey Mahler. He's at 30 N. Michigan Ave (I think) 312-263-5280.

Great office-- you either get to look at The Bean or up Michigan Ave while having your teeth cleaned. He's totally honest, too. I thought I had cavities when I went to him the first time, he said "nope, you just need a good cleaning". He could've easily lied and gotten more money out of me (I've had that happen with another dentist before). He's funny, too. He'll have a conversation with you while he's cleaning and ask you stuff you feel like you have to answer. Once you start replying and accidentally biting his fingers, he'll take them out and let you talk.

I've sent a few people to him and they all love him. Never any waiting-- you make a lunchtime appointment, you're in and out and back at work on time.

em / July 23, 2007 10:48 AM

I went to the Pimp Dentist! He was a really great dentist, albiet a creepy individual. So I am also looking for a new dentist. Of course, I have no idea what happened to my dental records : ( They were probably confiscated as "evidence".

gabby / July 23, 2007 11:29 AM

I see Dr. Blaine in Deborah Beatty's office -- LOVE her. Great manner, personable, funny and hands down, gave me the most pain-free novacaine injections ever!

Heather / July 23, 2007 11:36 AM

Thomas Murray at Dental Innovations on Lincoln and Wilson is the absolute greatest dentist in the world. He does incredible research if you have particularly complicated problems to make 100% he is approaching it the best way possible. He also invests in technology to reduce costs for certain procedures and offers interest-free credit for your bills. Couldn't be better.

Lindsay / July 23, 2007 11:46 AM

I recommend Dr. Caldwell at Kimberly Smiles. She is great! The office is very modern and impressively high tech. My favorite part is the flat screen monitor that sits above the chair that can be used to view the imagines from the camera inside my mouth or to distract me with cable TV as she drills away.

glad to see my dentist on the list
Fred Purcell
Belmont just before you hit Sheridan. He's right down my alley...so freakin' convenient.

Very nice, laid back, friendly staff.

Sam / July 23, 2007 12:12 PM

Do any of these dentists take Medicaid patients--and not give them a hard time? I'm having trouble finding one. Thx.

If you have dental HMO like me, the pickings are slim. I found a good dentist--Ana Torres @ Lincoln Park Dentistry, 2266 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60614, (773) 528-6485. The downside is that their hours are 9-5 M-F only.

Dr. Frederick at Northwestern Dental.

He is great! I tried going to another dentist as he is not cheap, but I always end up back there because he is the best.

He is always making sure that all the other things that relate to your teeth are taken care of. (Like your stress level, diet and excerise.)

Jill / July 23, 2007 1:53 PM

I go to Dr. Michael Marcus in the Garland Building

111 N. Wabash, Ste. 2103
312-263-6898

There's a website too, but damned if I can find it right now.

The entire staff is excellent, knowledgeable, and extremely professional. He's up-to-date technologically-speaking, which I really like. After having a pain-free root canal from him, I don't really understand what all the fuss is about (mine was pretty small though). He's also not into unnecessary treatments.

Sol / July 23, 2007 3:58 PM

I go to Dr. Bukamira at Dental Professionals of Lincoln Park, and everyone there is awesome.

Dr. Nasrin Azim
Stone Dental Group 773.880.5080

Her hygenist is very nice and Dr. Azim herself is very pleasant. My only complaint is their radio station's tuned to the Mix. She is very knowledgeable and also not into unnecessary treatments.

I have an appointment next week to fill the first and only cavity I've ever had. Perhaps I'll amend this statement upon receipt of filling.

Dr. Malitz is the best. He has taken care of three generations of my family!

What was that? Some one mention Medicade???

Nope must have been
just my magination, or as the immortal Tempation sang,"cause it was just my
imagination once again, running away with me".

Yup get all types of suggestions up in here for every thing under the sun ,
unless you ask about something relevant to those that deal or live on the underside of America.

And to h*ll with yall cause I know what's coming from the peanut gallery, but I stand on what I say.

Any way, sorry Sam( only)
for the rant, give a call to the University of Illinois Dental School, they hooked up a friend of mine who needed some assistance in the "mouth" department. They have a clinic with a sliding scale,-0 dollars on up. She also told me they really respect folks humanity as well

If this thread is still going to tomorrow, I'm sure I will be able to scrounge up some numbers for some more resources when I arrive back to the Big House for work tomorrow. If not give a call to the Lt. Governor's office, I think he might have been involved in this issue relating to accessible dental care

p.s dental care is a big deal, or the lack there off in America, it the gate way to all sorts diseases, including various cancers. Course I'm sure no one will be talking about that on tonight's Yo Tube debates

Dan M. / July 24, 2007 7:30 AM

Back when I could afford dental insurance, I went to the mother of my close and fairly crazy friend from high school. She was great - nothing like having the dentst whack you upside the head when you tell them how much you've been flossing. I can't imagine the awkward conversations (or lack thereof) one has with a stranger dentist.

Dan Boland / July 24, 2007 9:12 AM

Drs. Greg & Dan Strobel
25 E Washington, Suite 1917

This is the 75th year of Strobel dentistry. (Dan is the third generation.) Very nice people work there.

Spook / July 24, 2007 9:40 AM

Dear Sam, Dan,( no need to get wacked upside the head, by a well meaning but quirky dentists, save that job for memers of CPD!)-, et Al, DORAL Dental of Illinois at 888-286-2447
makes recommendations suitable to income, of course including Illinois Citizens with medicaid benefits.

skafiend / July 24, 2007 11:41 AM

First Family Dental on Clark Street in Andersonville, across from Alamo shoes. Dr. Nuneh. The guy made getting a needle in the roof of your mouth almost painless (I said "almost", but pretty close.). Great dentist.

That being said, do NOT go to the dentist in the huge building at 6200 N. Clark near Granville. Can't remember his name (I think I blocked it from my memory) but the guy is a f*cking butcher, not a dentist. I had to have a tooth removed and he basically ripped it out of my head and kicked me out of the door with my mouth bleeding all over the place.

carrie the editor / July 24, 2007 12:11 PM

Who's your dentist? Would you recommend them him/her?

Fixed!

carrie the editor / July 24, 2007 12:15 PM

Gah! My strikethrough html disappeared! Kinda renders my snooty grammar post a little less effective....and more ironic.

erin / July 24, 2007 12:22 PM

Not exactly a dentist....but if you need an oral surgeon, go to Dr. Coleman Spector. He's at Belmont & Kenmore. He is fantastic!

Sam / July 24, 2007 12:56 PM

Thanks, Spook. I really need this.

karen / July 24, 2007 2:09 PM

nothing wrong with that. just sayin'

emyduck / July 24, 2007 3:33 PM

i loved my dentist until a temporary crown broke THREE TIMES in the short 10 days i was wearing it. nobody should have to go through that.

CHLOE / July 1, 2008 10:41 AM

Dr Torres at Lincoln Park Dentistry is good. We cannot stand the staff-- they are intolerably rude and snippy so we are looking for a new dentist. Also, no matter what time your appointment is, you will WAIT!
