Everything.

The United States is one over-hyped, overly intense place.

Kirie / January 18, 2010 8:54 AM

Lady GaGa. GoGo away.

susan / January 18, 2010 8:56 AM

Pants on the ground. I've already had enough and I fear it's only just begun...

eee / January 18, 2010 10:39 AM

Anything "Avatar" and/or James Cameron.

LDW / January 18, 2010 3:39 PM

All things "Kardashian."

PMan / January 18, 2010 11:27 PM

The celebrity with no purpose -- from Paris Hilton to Kate and John and on and on are a long term thing that should stop.

More recently, please no more hype for that sappy Brendan Fraser/Harrison Ford movie.

Steven / January 19, 2010 12:30 AM

Uh, what isn't? That's an easier question. MLK Jr. Day as a holiday seemed to be pretty low key, no greeting cards or parades or crazy ass sales. Pet fish. Russian champagne, oops I mean sparking wine. Tinker Toys, although perhaps they aren't made any more, though something's non-existence doesn't necessarily mean it can't be hyped as we've all learned from Paris Hilton's talent. Can't think of anything else. All the other stuff is definitely over-hyped.

Guy Smiley / January 19, 2010 10:19 AM

The Conan/Leno war. Ditton on Lady GaGa (What the hell does she do that is so new and great?). That Jersey Shore crap. Ke$sha (a new no-talent popster who everyone is trying to jump on the bandwagon to say they reported on her first. She did an internew on NPR Sunday morning for cryin'out loud and had nothing to say). Twitter. Aw, hell, let's just say everything in the media.

Kara / January 19, 2010 10:10 PM

Leggings-as-pants.

jlp / January 19, 2010 11:37 PM

speidi, esp. after her ridiculous plastic surgery escapade.

avatar.

monique's hairy legs.

Mucky Fingers / January 20, 2010 11:03 AM

Ditto @ Mike. Whatever it is, it's over-hyped and unnecessarily intense. Our culture is increasingly cacophonous.

charlie / January 20, 2010 11:29 AM

Hats, gloves, wrist warmers and scarves knitted from homemade biodynamic bacon.

Guy Smiley / January 20, 2010 11:36 AM

Oh, and at this whole "things that are so bad they're good", which mostly consists of reality shows. All of that Jersey Shore, Real Housewives, certain musical acts, etc. crap that people always claim is a "guilty pleasure". If it's crap, it's crap and the only thing that makes it mildly interesting to some is out attraction to voyurism. It'll be great when we all go back to watching things that are watchable simple because they are good.

paul / January 21, 2010 9:30 AM

Like he said, everything.

Even the weather is over-hyped.

The late-night host thing is ridiculous - it's 'New Coke' all over again. Two shows with failing ratings get hyped-up with controversy - and now it's the most talked about subject on the planet.
