Timothy Geithner for not Palin-ing out on his Treasury Sec'y job at likely the worst moment in his career and staying put. For better or worse, yo.

Andrew Huff / August 8, 2011 10:26 AM

Lisa White and Niki Fritz for their awesome Lollapalooza coverage in Transmission.

eee / August 8, 2011 10:29 AM

My husband, for sitting up with me last night when pregnancy pains woke me in tears. He's the best.

Peter / August 8, 2011 10:52 AM

Technically, if Geithner had "Palin-ed out", he never would have embarked on the foolish spending, quantitative easing I and II, massive debt accumulation, and continued bailouts, and hence would not have put himself in the position of needing to resign at the lowest point of his ineffective career. Mad props Timmeh, mad props.

Just wait until the next round of bailouts are announced (looking at you first Fannie and Freddie, then to the banks, then to the states, and on we go, crisis to crisis.)

As for the high-five, I've got to give it to Pres. Obama. On the day the US credit is downgraded, our "leader" decides to go play golf. Meetings? No. Golf? Hell yeah. That on the heels of a big birthday blowout while the markets are tanking. Nothing builds confidence than "now, watch this drive" moments and increasingly accurate comparisons to Nero.

David / August 8, 2011 4:14 PM

I'd like to give a big high-five to all the haters, obstructionists, Tea Party fanatics, hyper-partisans, counterfactual historians, and all their supporters.

You're doing a great job tugging at both ends of the saw to bring this country crashing down.

Daniel / August 9, 2011 7:30 AM

My fiancee, Mollie, for putting up with me!

vise77 / August 9, 2011 8:29 AM

A big high-5 to that Tea Party leader--think his name is Judson Philipps--who proposed to stimulate the economy through the building of at least two unneeded aircraft carriers, as reported the other day in The Economist (even though I am somewhat hawkish on defense, and far from a pacifist, we have more than enough aircraft carriers). Yet, Phillips and his ilk detest all other forms of stimulus spending, including for more needed projects such as transportation.

So, a big high-5 for him being among the biggest village idiots around these days, which is saying a lot. I mean, the guy has to be really trying at this point. (And at this point, I would give two left nuts for the emergence of moderate, reasonable conservatives, for us to wack the Tea Part cult members back into their Jesus holes.)

Spook / August 9, 2011 10:07 AM

I'm giving a big jumping up in the sky in my brand new kicks, Hi Five to the Tea Party crew, all by my damnie!

The Democowards and Demorats have done nothing, zero, zilch, nada and every thing possible Not to build a progressive activist inspired base. Least they( our liberal leaders) have to give up their royal inherited manors and titles of lordship as this country sinks deeper into the abyss. Ho humn.

And instead of looking inward we blame it on somebody else.

The Tea Party as a reward for their ability to actually build, mobilize, and empower a base, might as well enjoy the par-tay, cause the house was already burning down, and now that us protected "northsiders" are finally feeling the ruinous economic heat, we are crying ""waah waah waah whaahhhhh!" like fat pink entitled publicly breast feed babies in Rosco Village about those meanie tea party people!

Too bad the President( we allowed this!) and his wall street and Chicago "Democratic" Machine crew never prioritized grass roots CHANGE as opposed to figuring out how to raise record levels ( this is your "change!") of obscene amounts of wealth for their campaign to continue the statues quo.

Now fetch me the Royal Fool cause they are us, and I'm out like shout.

Governor Quinn, for at least trying to make a little small reform - http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-quinn-again-tries-to-kill-legislative-scholarship-program-20110810,0,2712952.story

This young lady deserves a high-five, for standing up to a thug and helping to catch a murderer.

What Mike said. If only more civilized people in Chicago would stop being cowards about every damn little thing*, life might get at least a tiny bit better.

*no, you don't have to fight thugs with your bare fists like you are Chuck Norris, but for the love of Christ, at least call out the barbarians, or call the cops, instead of burying yourself in your dumb flirtations with your smartphones and your selfish apathy.
