i have wednesday off for sure, but tuesday i think we mostly have off because nobody's gonna want to do any work anyhow.

it's like the weekend, in the middle of the week!!!

Mindy / July 2, 2007 7:52 AM

I've got off Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, which, since I normally have Monday and Tuesday off, is the extended 3-day weekend that normally eludes the schedule of a wedding cake decorator.

paul / July 2, 2007 8:51 AM

I'm off on my part-time gig Tues. and Wed. but freelancers never take off (unless they feel like it).

Nobody I know is planning to get anything done this week.

mary / July 2, 2007 8:53 AM

office closes at noon on tuesday, and all day wednesday. a waste of time for my coworkers who come in from the suburbs, but oh well!

kate / July 2, 2007 9:01 AM

Only Wednesday. Boo.

Tobermory / July 2, 2007 9:01 AM

Wednesday is the only official day, but I think we'll get let out early on Tuesday provided there isn't some huge crisis.

Y A J / July 2, 2007 9:07 AM

Only Wednesday. But many folks have vacation time scheduled all week, so I'm hoping it'll be slow and a great time to catch up.

Bill V / July 2, 2007 9:22 AM

Only Wednesday is totally off, but I'm taking the afternoon off today to venture to Summerfest and Social Distortion! I'll be at work the other days, just hopefully not full days if I can help it.

Spook / July 2, 2007 9:48 AM

A Spook you know has Wednesday off, but will take an personal day off on Thursday!

Emerson Dameron / July 2, 2007 9:52 AM

Just Wednesday.

Winediva / July 2, 2007 9:53 AM

I'm making Tues and Wed official Winediva holidays, but I"m not expecting high productivity for any day this week.

zzzzzzz / July 2, 2007 9:57 AM

this question is boring. could we add, "and what are you planning to do with your time off"? or, tell us a crazy fireworks story or something-

carrie / July 2, 2007 10:00 AM

Wednesday and leave early on Tuesday.

zzzzzzz, I have a joke for you to spice this thread up:

Ready??

It's raining cats and dogs and I stepped in a poodle!!
haahahahaa!!!

vit / July 2, 2007 10:08 AM

wednesday. that is all :(

Justin / July 2, 2007 10:12 AM

carrie, I like your joke.

Freelancing keeps most days flexible. Today I'm temping, tomorrow I'm sleeping in the park.

Jill / July 2, 2007 10:26 AM

Just Wednesday off, but Friday is a "holiday" because it's the office retreat this weekend. Free weekend on Mackinac Island is sounding really good right now.

erin / July 2, 2007 11:10 AM

Officially, we are closed Tuesday and Wednesday, but I took off the entire week so I can tan and eat food at Taste of Chicago.

skafiend / July 2, 2007 11:39 AM

What??? Any f*cking day I want, that's what day!! I call the shots in this mutha... oh, damn the boss is coming.. Um, Wednesday. Gotta go...

jen / July 2, 2007 11:43 AM

tuesday and wednesday, though my boss tried to convince the big bossman that the whole week is the only logical solution. and here i sit, bored out of my mind on a monday, and knowing thursday and friday will be a waste as well.

Eamon / July 2, 2007 12:19 PM

Wednesday only.

fluffy / July 2, 2007 12:28 PM

Wednesday only. It's still not enough, considering the self-important two-faced princess I have to work with.

k. / July 2, 2007 12:33 PM

I'm not sure I even have Wednesday off, but I don't plan on coming in.

jen / July 2, 2007 12:49 PM

only wednesday, which means half the office will be hungover and unproductive on thursday, and will have checked out mentally by about 2pm tomorrow.

Andre / July 2, 2007 1:16 PM

I've only got Wednesday off, and that's not really a definite either. I'm going to try and shut it down at 3 tomorrow and see what happens.

Spook / July 2, 2007 1:18 PM

wondering if Allan's got a job yet and why he gave up the temping in the first place? Yea slow work day.

printdude / July 2, 2007 1:35 PM

I gots the Wednesday off.

And a case of burgers to cook.
A Case!

Who wants a cheeseburger?

Allan / July 2, 2007 1:39 PM

I have the whole week off. I have given up on job hunting and masturbating. In the last three weeks I have managed to lose another 15 pounds. I now weigh an astounding 16o and I look completely different. I also decided to shave my head. Yesterday, having nothing to do. I walked from my apartment, Addison and Lincoln, to the Field Museum and back it took 9 hours including the time I sat in the park. It was quite nice. When I passed Oak Street Beach a girl in a bikini with big bajanglers started a conversation with me, the second time in my life that has ever happened. I don't like being poor but It is almost worth because I have never felt more alive. I am thinking about joining the Peacecorps or some shit. That girl with the bajanglers was beautiful. She said I looked like the guy from Grey's Anatomy. Now I have to watch the show to see who she is talking about.

Judy / July 2, 2007 1:43 PM

Just Wednesday.
One day off in the middle of the week, spent trying to convince my dog that all the loud noises won't hurt him, then trying to coax him out from under my desk where he will curl up, shivering for hours.

Gosh I love this holiday.

ken / July 2, 2007 3:12 PM

I would say Wednesday only, err "officially" but being that I live in Naples, Florida the whole week will be a total wash...
This happens anytime a holiday gives any time off in the mid-week down here in the south nobody does anything most of the time when its a normal week, except on Wednesday because then most of these rednecks have recouped from the weekend, just in time to trash themselves Wednesday and recoup by Friday for the weekend....and on...and on....

The Official Motto -

Let's Get Drunk and Fish for Five Days, and Work Only Two.

JasonB / July 2, 2007 3:36 PM

Half-day on tuesday and all of wednesday off, though on-call for both.

I would have tacked on some vacation days to get the rest of the week off, but my bastard colleague beat me to it. Whore.

Dragonslayer / July 2, 2007 3:46 PM

No days off. Europe isn't celebrating the 4th and they need support.

Sara / July 2, 2007 4:01 PM

Just Wednesday, but the whole week's a bust. I can't believe they pay me this much to do this little.

(Not implying I'm rich or anything, but you know? At this point, their money would be better-spent redecorating the bathroom!)

Spook / July 2, 2007 5:13 PM

This thread is lame, it’s even got Allan attempting to add varnish to his existence!
“Grey's Anatomy”indeed! What happened to the countrovesry!?! The insults!?!
Heck have yall all been eating the Turkey Legs at the Taste the Waste of Chicago, like the sad lost souls who drank the grape Kool-Aid in Jones Town Guyana?

hench / July 2, 2007 5:56 PM

i'm taking this whole week off. one of the perks of academia...

Carlotta / July 2, 2007 9:44 PM

Just Wednesday, but I like the vibe the mid-week day off is giving to the rest of the work week -- just more mellow all the way around.

laprof / July 2, 2007 9:47 PM

We are off starting Tuesday at 3Pm, and all of Wednesday. That's it!

mt / July 3, 2007 12:07 AM

i don't even have wednesday off. i hate retail.

steven / July 3, 2007 9:08 AM

Only Wednesday. But hey, it breaks up the week.

p / July 3, 2007 9:17 AM

everyday this week and for the forseeable future due to getting fired yesterday.

here's some spice- is anyone offended by Spook's screen-name? Or his regular use of A Spook ______ in threads?

leah / July 3, 2007 9:35 AM

oh no, p! that is for suck.

spook's name is OK to me b/c it reminds me of my best halloween costume ever--the kooky spook. they were popular in the late 70s, early 80s.

I can see being kind of creeptastic, though.

Spook / July 3, 2007 10:51 AM

Huummmmmmmmm.I wonder why when certain people see the word “spook”, they only “see” a very narrow definition of the word “spook” as opposed to “spook” used in some other context such as fine or progressive works of political literature? I don’t know…… perhaps it is being used in that narrow definition( this is Amerikka after all) or perhaps both as a play upon words? Guess it’s like the riddle of the Sphinx or what really happened to Rahm Emanuel’s right middle finger?
I wish some one would have taken me up on Waste of Chicago bait I offered after some Trixie wrote/chirped in about taking the week off to tan and go to the Taste, il! Guess Skafiend is sleep at his desk after a late night of drinking, listening to Ska
and being all intellectually middle of the road and "balanced" like NPR

I'm sorely disappointed, yo! I also can't wait till I'm at a point in my life when on days like this, I can have a liquid lunch. I know this will only happen when I move to New Orleans which has no “Taste of New Orleans” because drinking with people from, lets say St. Martinsville or Vermilion Parish Louisiana
, is infinitely cooler than having to put up with folks from Wheeling or Schaumburg at the Waste of Chicago!

I mean whose wit a Spook on this? Who’s thirsty!?! Who wants a beer!?! Matter of fact I'd surely be a more productive Spook at work with a Hurricane from O’Brien’s in the French Quarter right about now! But fear not, cause yall want have Ye Olde Spook to push around after 3:00pm! Word came down that we can go home then. Happy Imperialist Day!

Fuzzy / July 3, 2007 11:06 AM

Just Wednesday, though we do *officially* get to take off today (Tuesday) at 4 pm. Thank you, corporate masters, for these crumbs.

skafiend / July 3, 2007 11:48 AM

Well, Spookster, as far as Taste the Waste Post-haste of Chicago, I AM balanced and NPRish about it. I stay as far away as I can from there, think it's a pandering bread-and-circus act from Daley designed to distract from the real problems, but if some "Trixie" want to contract skin cancer and risk possible salmonella poisoning, who am I to stop her? Besides, you can never get too much Mr. Blotto (they are playing there right?)

I begrudge no one their right to waste their time, be it scarfing down a turkey leg on a greasy downtown street curb or orchestration the overthrow of the system on a local website bulletin board.

Oh, and aren't spooks also agents of the CIA? ... is this radical chic merely a coverup? Nevermind, I'll check with my buddy Sam Greenlee.

p / July 3, 2007 2:12 PM

ok first off- you've got Spook as your screen-name to reference a semi-obscure racial epithet cuz you think you're being cute and provocative. i recognize it because it's what grammar school kids from communities w/ racist leanings call black people. It's always bothered me when i read your posts but just figured- fine whatever. But today- as part of Day-After -Getting Fired For The First Time Ever (along w/ a 5-mile Forrest-Gumpin' it session on the treadmill) I'd address your cockamaymee. I thought you might like to explain it yourself, given it's offensive natural, but pretty much i figure it's a case of me having "p" because my first name begins with P, and you having "Spook" because in all likelihood you are a complete jagoff.

Oh and if you think you won't be sippin' hurricanes alongside ppl from wheaton at O'Brien's you're thicker than i thought.

And the Taste is a free event, enjoyed by many of the city's residents and is certainly not a Trixie-spot or whatever ridiculous argument you're trying to construct to bash the city once again. Ask most folks who packed the place for the white party Frankie Beverly jumped off on last friday.

bile / July 3, 2007 2:19 PM

I thought it was cause it's scary what a self absorbed dumb fuck he is. He talks about himself in 3rd person! You just try TOO hard and it's almost painful to read.

Hey, I'm just saying what others are thinking.
