I would classify myself as incredibly healthy based on the standards set in the 80s. I work out a gym a few times a week and avoid red meat whenever possible. However, in 2010, I am probably looked down upon by the healthier members of my generation. I drive a car most of the time, I shop at Jewel in lieu of farmers' markets or Whole Foods, and I will never, ever under any circumstances (post apocalyptic nightmare future MAYBE) go vegan.
Lately I've been commuting via bike and it is amazing. Our lakefront path is probably my favorite thing about Chicago.
Does anyone know if it remains remotely passable during the winter? Is it plowed?
Healthy? What a relative term.
Since I had lung failure, liver failure, kidney failure and heart failure, all in January of this year, I'd say just breathing would be healthy.
Instead I'm out playing golf, fishing and hosting cookouts in my backyard. I'm healthier than I've been in two years, maybe more.
I used the modern miracles delivered from the doctors at the U of C to gain my health. Go ahead, call me a cheater. Cheater of Death!
Pretty healthy, but I should exercise more than I do.
I eat fairly carefully, take vitamins and calcium. I cook at home often and when I go out, I usually eat half a restaurant portion, if that. That's my big restaurant tip- eat reasonable portions.
I mountain bike, road ride, ride for recreation, rock climb, do yoga and generally don't sit still for long. I lowered my cholesterol with activity and diet.
Mostly, I consider myself lucky, many people, (apparently including Printdude) have health concerns that are out of their hands.
No major problems thus far. And I remind myself that no matter what, everyone dies of something.

What? You ride a bike in this city and haven't been run down or killed yet? Well, it's inevitable accordiing to CCM, so...nice knowing you.
I work out everyday, even Saturdays! I eat pretty well, no meat..but I love ice cream, I ride my bike everywhere, but I smoke and drink..alot. So, I have no idea what I am?
I bicycle to work every day (4.2 miles each way). My diet is less than ideal but more than acceptable. I feel pretty good, but I am lacking in sleep and weightlifting.
I agree with getupmom, I'm mindful whenever I hear a story like printdude's to pause and give thanks for good health.
I'd have to say Very Healthy. Life long cyclist ( you name it I have done it on a bike) runner, and all round active person. I even started going to a gym (YMCA) a few years ago, mostly in the winter. My diet is healthy but I refuse to omit anything from it entirely, choosing moderation and portion size. We eat mostly home cooked meals and I rarely drink soda and rarely eat processed food.
All that, and plenty of sleep. It also helps that my wife enjoys the same things for the most part.
Skip the escalators and take the stairs!
I guess I'm somewhat healthy- I eat lots of veggies and fruit, no fried or fast food, haven't eaten meat/pork since I was 17; I drink water throughout the day; I run about 12 miles a week; cut down on drinking; don't smoke or do drugs; I am pretty addicted to caffeine, but that's my only vice. What really keeps me healthy is staying away from negative people, listening to good music and Mr. M. - and chocolate.
In the process of figuring out what's going on with me. I decided to take advantage of my healthcare job and insurance to incorporate an entourage of docs and a therapist since I've lost too much weight lately. I'm really sick of hearing people tell me about it like I don't know. Do you tell someone when they've gained a few? No. I smoke, I drink, I eat red meat but I'm working on it. So I'd say I'm medium healthy.
