Troubled Hubble - I'm Pretty Sure I Can See Molecules
Holla Back Girl - Gwen Stefani
This shit's BANANAS - B-A-N-A-N-A-S
"Bucky Done Gun" - M.I.A.
or
"If Them Want to Hear" - Femi Kuti

"Only" - Nine Inch Nails
But most probably M.I.A.
"Chrome Delorian" by Chi-town's own 446
Sufjan Stevens- C'Mon Feel the Illinoise
"Mushaboom" - Feist
Today's the Day- Aimee Mann
"10$": M.I.A.
Close Seconds ...
The rest of M.I.A.'s Arular
The Ponys "Get Black"
Black Eyed Peas "Pump It"
Detroit Cobras "Hot Dog"
Oranges Band "Believe"
50 Cent: "Hate It Or Love It (G Unit Remix)"
Beck: "Que' Onda Guero"
1. Take the trapeze lessons on the lake at Addison
2. See "Wicked"
3. See "Star Wars" and "ET" at the Outdoor Film Festival
4. Go on a date with my neighbor before lease is up September 1st!
john, second that troubled hubble song for sure.
also that 446 song is a true summer jam on the real.
"Cruel Summer" - Bananarama
"Cruel Summer" - Bananarama
If I had to pick a 446 song as my 2005 summer jam, I think I'd go with "Rolla in my Corolla."
Otherwise: Jay-Z "Dear Summer" and any number of TMBG selections.
"My Coco" by Stellastarr*
"It's All inMy Mind" Teenage Fanclub
Perfect Day - Lou Reed
****Summer Nights (Lil Rob)~
Gasolina & Lo Que Paso, Paso (Daddy Yankee)~
Pobre Diabla (Don Omar)~
Also: "Feel Good Inc."- Gorillaz
Favorite local rapper Common's recent album "Be" is excellent, much better production than previous releases, finally doing some justice to his amazing voice. Standout songs are Chi-City, It's Your World, They Say, and the radio-friendly Go!
I've also been really digging Aesop Rock's Daylight and Architecture in Helsinki's Tiny Paintings.
"Demolition Rickshaw" The Aquabats
Rollercoaster -- Sleater-Kinney
Denial Twist -- the White Stripes
Mariner's Revenge Song -- the Decemberists
Gasolina! Gasolina!
"Everywhere" - Dizzee Rascal
Let the Cool Goddess Rust Away - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Madvillian - Money Folder (FourTet remix)
Sunshowers - MIA
Spinning Away - Eno & Cale
Hollaback Girl - Gwen (Cuz that shit is bananas)
Mainly because I couldn't escape it and partly because I kinda enjoyed it...
Speed of Sound - Coldplay
"I Turn My Camera On" - Spoon
only recently discovered but has been on repeat enough in the last three days to pull its weight as this summer's anthem for me is "upon this tidal wave of young blood" by clap your hands and say yeah. and thanks, craig, for highlighting them in your blog a couple weeks back.
sunshowers-M.I.A.
that whisper song from the yin yang twins. i swear ive been going to the gym just for an excuse to hear it on my lunch break.
I could not agree more about "Bucky Done Gun" by MIA. I even have it as the ringtone on my phone right now. Go Sprint.
Coming in a close second place is Keane's "Bend and Break."
Huzzahs to "Get Black" by the Ponys. Great album.
Also, "Love in a Trashcan" by The Raveonettes, as well as their "Uncertain Times."
"Bingo (Diplo remix)" - M.I.A.: It satisfies my Arular craving and uses the instrumental track to Jay-Z's "Big Pimpin'". Ideal.
Other than that, all of Twin Cinema by the New Pornographers. Can't wait to buy that legitimately this month.
"It's So Fucking Hot" by the Sweatdrippers.
What, you mean it has to be a real song?
andrew bird - a nervous tic motion of the head to the left (or any song off "weather systems")
sufjan stevens - chicago (or any song off of "illinois")
also, any weird thing my neighbor bangs out on his piano in the afternoon - usually showtunes-y stuff, i enjoy sneaking out onto the back porch to giggle at him.
gwen stefani = crap; who listens to radio anyway?
Careless Whisper - Wham
Axel F - Harold Faltermeyer
...oh, wait, it's 2005, not 1985. Whoops. :)
Yeah, I'm going to have to go with Black Eyed Peas on this one. "Don't Phunk with my Heart" is a pretty boppin' little tune, and I've been hearing it everywhere.
Also, Gwen Stefani rules.
I second the Fanclub song.
Veronica #2, have you heard the unedited version of the Whisper Song? That stuff is dirrrrty! It's hilarious - I can't get over it.
But to answer the question: any of 50 Cent's releases. Disco Inferno, Lil Bit, Candy Shop, Hate it or Love it (of course the G-Unit remix!). They'll all remind me of this summer.
Axel F - Harold Faltermeyer
Flynn -- that weird keyboard instrumental dealie was on the Bevery Hills Cop soundtrack. I can't believe I know that. I was only seven when that came out.
C'mon. Gwen is a guilty pleasure, but a pleasure nonetheless.
ok.
i will lose all indie cred.
but.
someone needs to mariah some props.
please?
bloc party - banquet/price of gas
dinosaur jr. - little fury things
the majestic arrows - another day
dungen - festival
* i'm sure there's others i just can think of right now....
Let's Go Go White Sox Polka - Captain Stauby and the Polka Kings or by the Ampolaires both are good.
Sunshine
By
Jonathan Edwards
A
Sunshine go away today
E
I don't feel much like dancing.
A
Someone's come he's trying to run my life
E D
don't believe what he's asking
He tells me I'd better get in line, don't believe what he's saying
When I grow up I'm going to make it mine
but these aren't dues I been paying
Chorus:
D A
But how much does it cost? (I'll buy it)
D A
The time is all we've lost (I'll try it)
D A
but he can't even run his own life
G E
I'll be damned if he'll run mine, Sunshine
Sunshine go away today,
I don't feel much like dancing
someone's come he's trying to run my life
Don't believe what he's asking...
Working starts to make you wonder where
the fruits of what I do are going
He says in love and war all is fair
But he's got cards he ain't showing
[chorus]
Sunshine come on back another day
Pretty soon I'll be singing
This old world, gonna turn around
Brand new bells will be ringing
[chorus]
"Feel Good, Inc." by Gorillaz. I heard that song just as the weather started to heat up, right before the radio and the iPod commercials got ahold of it. I'm still not sick of the song yet.
Also, "Que Onda Guero" by Beck. I like to play this with the windows rolled down while stuck in traffic on a hot day. It makes me happy.
embarassing, yes...
kelly clarkson - since you been gone
it seems this song is playing every single time i enter or exit a bar. because of this, i've grown to actually like the song. why, god, why?!?
m.i.a. - galang
"london boys speak the slang now
boys say wha-gawn
girls say wha-wha
slang! ga lang ga lang galang
ga la la la la la lang ga lang galang"
'don't stop believing'--journey
"Son Of Suzy Creamcheese," Zappa and the Mothers.
I can't quit.
Jared eats Delhi-- chicago's own Gary B. www.sunroomrecords.com
"Do the swagger" - The Soviettes
"Death Bed" - Alkaline Trio
"Modern Girl" - Sleater Kinney
"Pull Out" - DFA 1979
It's a toss up between "Black Rooster" and "Sweet Cloud"- both by The Kills.
I'm going on a rafting/camping trip to top off the summer and to celebrate the homecoming of an old friend who is moving back from NYC. The fave songs on this Fuel are going into the mix I'm making for the long hours we'll be spending around a fire pit roasting weenies and drinking something domestic, light and cold!
whoo
Veronica:
Yeah the unedited version of the whisper song is SUPER dirrrrrty. Probably the dirtiest song ive heard in awhile. but thats why i dig it :)
Cake's Meanwhile, Rick James...
Older song, but I had the cd with me while doing a lot of traveling this summer :)
My runner up...Somebody told me, The Killers
i thought i was the only one totally blown away by "i'm pretty sure i can see molecules" by troubled hubble. it's so outrageously happy! i wouldn't have thought of it as the "song of the summer," but i guess...yeah...it is.
erica:
Believe me, I'm well aware of the tracks on the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack. I think I still have the vinyl tucked away somewhere. I'm not proud of it, but the heat IS on. :)
jennifer:
Journey is GREAT roller skating music.
"the electric version" = the new pornographers
"the calendar girl" - stars and
jordis' version of "the man who sold the world" from rockstar:INXS. it's awesome -- and already downloadable.
