A free idea for a state legislator...

Dr. Norman Borlaug passed away. Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970 and a man who developed hybrid crops that have saved billions from hunger and likely millions from death by armed conflict.

As a graduate of an Illinois elementary school, middle school, high school, university and a private university for grad school I had never heard of Dr. Borlaug until a couple of years ago.

I just checked google news there are 2,591 articles referencing Kanye's outburst at the MTV Video Music Awares, but only 1,366 about the death of Dr. Borlaug.

The state legislature in Illinois passes laws all the time where kids have to learn about some massacre, about how some group was mistreated or how the United States acted like a jerk in some way shape or form.

So here is my idea folks....

Every 2 years, public schools in Illinois at the grade, middle and high school levels have to spend one hour teaching about Dr. Normal Borlaug and show students how with science and dedication great things can be done. Also how they can learn much more about how to live their lives from those who dedicate themselves to helping others than from those who act like jerks on TV.

Substance, Not Style, the Source of Rahm's Woes

By Ramsin Canon / 2 Comments

It's not surprising that some of Mayor Emanuel's sympathizers and supporters are confusing people's substantive disputes with the mayor as the effect of poor marketing on his part. It's exactly this insular worldview that has gotten the mayor in hot... More...
