« The Snuggliest Man In Illinois Politics Thursday Watch Party - Rep. Alan Grayson Owns Republicans on Health Care »

Tue Sep 29 2009

So why do we need more Democrats in Springfield?

Yes I am a Republican but reguardless of your political views I think this is a legitimate question that everyone should be asking.

With Democrats in control of both chambers in Springfield and having every statewide elected office, has 6 years of virtually one party rule in this state done any good?

I asked this question of a candidate for state rep who was getting signatures at my train station (Rt. 59). When I was asked to sign the petition (I am not in the candidates district, but she didn't ask if I was anyway) her answer was 'Well I haven't been down in Springfield' which prompted me to ask 'So would you vote against Mike Madigan for another term as Speaker of the House'?

And her response was something I have not seen from a candidate or and elected official when I have asked a question in my entire adult life..

Stone slience, she just kind of looked at me for a while, she didn't try to avoid the question, say something totally off topic or anything else, she just looked at me....

Since I had a train to catch I said 'I take that as a no' and went on my way....

It has prompted me to want to ask the same question here however...

With the way state government has gone the last 6 years, why do we need more Democrats in Springfield? I look forward to your answers.

Substance, Not Style, the Source of Rahm's Woes

It's not surprising that some of Mayor Emanuel's sympathizers and supporters are confusing people's substantive disputes with the mayor as the effect of poor marketing on his part. It's exactly this insular worldview that has gotten the mayor in hot... More...
