It seems our hot and dry summer hasn't put a damper on the mosquitoes carrying West Nile Virus, according to a statewide sampling system. The number of virus-carrying Culex mosquitoes (which thrive in hot, dry weather) is as high as back in 2002, when Illinois was the nationwide leader in West Nile infections.
