Remember Shakti
In 1975 guitar legend John McLaughlin and Tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain formed the quartet Shakti – the first group to capture the world music fusion sound. Shakti is a Sanskrit word meaning creative intelligence, beauty and power. Decades later,
they return as Remember Shakti, with McLaughlin and Hussain joining with U. Shrinivas (Mandolin) and V. Selvaganesh (Ghatam, Kanjira, Mridangam). Remember Shakti’s music combines elements from Western Jazz with Hindustani (North Indian) and Carnatic (south Indian) classical music for an innovative and exciting sound. October 1st, 8:00 pm, at the
Chicago Theatre.
