33rd Annual Artists' Open House

More than 70 artists show their work in over 40 locations during this long-running artists' open house. The opening night party is Friday October 3, 6-11pm at CS:33/The Curated Show, 2003 S. Halsted Street. The show at CS:33 features both established and emerging artists, including Marcos Raya, Ned Broderick, Deva Suckerman, Kelly Brannon and Gary Borremans. Pick up a map there and head out to explore artists' studios in the area. The Open House continues Saturday and Sunday 12-7pm. More info here.

"Three Tales" Video Opera

Three Tales: A Three Part Digital Documentary Video Opera. The Chicago premiere of Steve Reich & Beryl Korot's new multimedia opera, with live orchestral accompaniment. (Read more about it here.) Koyaanisqatsi with the Philip Glass Ensemble

Koyaanisqatsi is a totally unconventional film that takes an intense look at modern life. Without dialogue or narration, it produces a unique view of the superstructure and mechanics of our daily lives. Produces and directed by Godfrey Reggio with music by Philip Glass, the film is an 87-minute evocation of a Hopi word that means "life out of balance". This special screening features the Philip Glass Ensemble performing the movie's soundtrack live on the Chicago Theatre Stage. October 3rd, 8 pm at the Chicago Theatre.

Hit The Decks

Hit The Decks, a new inner city youth program teaching kids how to deejay, is holding a benefit DJ throwdown at Metro/Smartbar. Four teams will compete for the love of the crowd, spinning music from 11pm till 4am. Tickets are $20. More info here.

Jay Ryan Gallery Opening

"Seatbelt for My Head," an exhibition of silkscreen collage monoprints by Jay Ryan of The Bird Machine, opens tonight at Foundation Gallery, 700 N. Carpenter. A free reception is from 6-10pm, featuring snacks and coffee from Jinx Cafe.
